Back again (: Still staying up past midnight and writing like a demon. Bad habit, really... Uh, so! Turns out, this is becoming increasingly popular, however slow the rate. Keep it up guys! Keep on voting, because if there's enough votes and reads I just may enter it in the Watty Awards :D So yeah. Chapter 4!
Chapter 4-
The rest of the school day passed surprisingly quickly, and for that I was thankful. I even had homework! I gathered my school stuff and carefully made my way to the school entrance. My mom had texted me, telling me that she'd pick me up, so I sat on the edge of the steps and waited.
Students began pilfering out of the doors at a steady rate. I watched them pass me by, wondering how many familiar faces I'd be able to recognize. My pondering was abruptly interrupted when my cell began blaring its jaunty tune. I blushed, embarrassed when people cast me looks, and answered it quietly.
"Hello?"
"Sea, darling! Where are you? You've been completely AWOL as of the last couple of days! Are you sick? Do I need to cancel on Artie? Communicate with me, here. Keep me up to date!" June spoke rapidly through the phone. My shoulders drooped a little and I sighed to myself. This wasn't going to fly over well...
I hoisted my bag up higher on my shoulder and unfolded my bent legs, bounding gracefully down the steps. "June? I don't know if you remember this because you were awfully tipsy with that Coach photographe when I told you, but I'm in Montana." I bit my lip, waiting for the explosion.
"Darling, darling! Why on EARTH are you in MONTANA?" she demanded. I looked down at the pavement and kicked a small pebble with the tip of my shoe.
"My mother... invited me to come and finish my senior year here at the local high school. Please don't be angry, June! Just think of this as an extended vacati-" Click. The line went dead. I pressed me forehead against my palm. Stupid, stupid, stupid! I should've reminded her when she was sober before flying over here. I HAD gone AWOL. She'd be mad for quite a while... I made a mental note to send her the pair of Jimmy Choos she'd been keeping her eye on for a while that I had secretly gotten her for her birthday. I'd just send it early, I supposed.
Parked across the street. Ready? -Mom xoxo
I smiled to myself and walked down the steps, all along the sidewalk, passing through the crosswalk's interesection, and hopped into the car when I spotted it.
"So? Your first day! How did it go? Did you make friends?" Mom bombarded me with questions and started up the car, driving down the street.
"It was... good, actually. Not exactly what I was expecting, but it was-"
"Did you meet Fletcher Kingsley? I've heard that he is SUCH a nice boy! Very handsome, too, which never hurts!" she cut in, exclaiming excitedly. "He's the quarterback on Valley Falls high school football team, you know."
I held in a sigh. "Yes, I met him. He is quite... charming, but not really my ty-"
"You should invite him over, honey! Ooh, or go on a date to get to know him more. I'm sure he'd gladly accept." she babbled. My happiness level lowered, yet I kept a small smile on my face before turning to look out the window.
"Yeah, sometime maybe. I'll consider it."
"Oh honey, that's so great! I bet you two would look so GORGEOUS together. He has the looks of a model. Speaking of which, has June set you up with any hunky male models yet? I told her once you're sixteen you were allowed to date." she mentioned casually, shocking me quite a bit. That was news to me. Why was she telling me all this now?
