The snowflakes landed gracefully on my exposed skin. The wind was howling. I couldn't make out what was in the distance. A silhouette of a skyscraper could barely be seen. I could barely see my loyal companion, Bailey in this torrent of endless snow. We had to find somewhere to take shelter soon or we would freeze to death. I wore 3 layers of jackets and Bailey had several blankets wrapped around her, even with her extra layer of fur, we wouldn't last out in the open much longer.
"Woof!" she barked in a weak voice, as if reading my thoughts and answering me. I patted her head even if she couldn't feel it under the layers of blankets and my mittens, she seemed to be a little happier.
Our only hope was that there would be a warm place to rest in somewhere in that skyscraper. My throat felt as dry as the desert. My limbs were only moving as I kept coaxing myself that we were almost there. I wanted to just give up and sleep in the soft and endless white sheet of snow. The blizzard was getting heavier. A torrent of snow could easily sweep us off our feet if we weren't careful. We also didn't make much noise as there was a mountain in the distance and an avalanche would not help in our situation. We walked as fast as we dared on the snow and ice. Slipping or getting a boot stuck in the snow was a definite thing to avoid. Bailey was hungry and so was I. I could hear my stomach growling in protest. My brain kept persuading parts of my body to keep functioning. But it couldn't last much longer. Fatigue was eventually going to devour me.
We walked for about another 10 minutes and we could just make out what made the shadow of the skyscraper. It was a grand castle made entirely out of solid ice. Well that certainly didn't help. Losing all hope, I must have become mentally disoriented as I walked into the castle anyways. Or maybe I was just desperate.
What was strange was the inside was warm. It was almost as if the castle was made out of wood. But I definitely seen it made out of solid ice unless I was hallucinating, which was highly possible.
"Hello? Anyone here?" I called out desperately. "We're lost can you help us?" Nothing. Either the inhabitants of the place had either already passed away or they were not here at the moment. I hoped that it was the latter.
It was a good place to shelter from all that ice and snow. I decided to rest here with Bailey. If the owner comes, I can simply explain that I came while he or she was out. It was strange how the door was left unlocked though. I had a half a million questions to think about but I just cuddled against Bailey and drifted into an abyss of sleep... ...
I had a nightmare. Bailey ran away and I was left all alone. I wandered off into a cave. Giant ice spikes fell down from the ceiling. I dodged, only quick enough to sustain a graze on my right cheek.
"ROAR!" a deafening sound pierced the air. It was followed by a loud thumping sound of footsteps. I hid behind a rock. A ten foot tall yeti emerged from the depths of the cave.
He smashed the rock I was hiding behind. Then weird blue particles blurred my vision. I was now in the open, back in the endless ice and snow. Suddenly a cage of ice rose from the ground and trapped me. Then, I woke up with a start.Bailey was still by my side. But something felt amiss. I looked around everything was intact and the way it had been before. The what was it? Something was definitely wrong. Then I saw her.
She was floating in the air with her ice blue dress. Her wings looked like a butterfly's. It was light blue and seemed to glitter. Her golden hair was long and unbraided. Her ice blue eyes seemed to pierce through your soul.
"What are you doing here?" she asked in a nonchalant voice, slowing descending to the ground. I didn't answer. "I SAID WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE!" Her claws showed. Long and sharp.
"We're lost..." I stammered in fear. I saw her fangs, they made her nails look like blunt pencils.
"Well lost travelers eh?" she said in the same tone. "Take a seat." I could've sworn I heard her mutter something about witch hunters.
Bailey ate a slab of meat which she gave him. I noticed that there were claw marks on the meat but kept quiet. She gave me a plate of potatoes and meat. I ate it hungrily. How she obtained potatoes in this endless land of snow was a mystery. I didn't care as I was starving.
She seemed kind and easy to get along with. But there was something else about her. She seemed very wary and cautious, as if we might attack her anytime. She had agreed to let us stay until the blizzard had subsided.
After a hearty dinner of scrambled eggs and cheese, I went to sleep with Bailey. I fell into a deep sleep, thinking about the events of the day.
