Chapter one Begingins

My name is May Velvet, well it was until that day. I woke up to the smell of pancakes just as my mother did, I walked down stairs to see my mother and father in the kitchen. My mother was sitting down at the table talking to my dad, and my dad was cooking the pancakes. I could see them, but I couldn't hear them , because the kitchen was a little far from the stairs and I had just woken from a sound sleep and was still getting used to reality. They were whispering something and my mother looked all concerned and my dad looked sad , but tried to be cheerful. I thought it was something bad that they were talking about so I ran over to the kitchen door and hide behind it, then I listened. " What are you doing up so early chase?" " I was going to cook you all pancakes so you didn't have to do any work my dear." " Well it's shocking your always asleep when I wake up and then I have to get you up not the other way around." " I know, but I had to get up early to get a good start." My mind was thinking a million things at once, get a good start on what, what was my dad talking about? " Get a good start on what? You have to go to work honey. What are you not telling me?" " My dad turned around to look at my mother he no longer was trying to act cheerful, but he was trying to make a face that would tell my mother to give him sympathy. " Mr. Adkins brought me to his office yesterday and talked to me about something that wasn't very good." My heart was racing like water in a water fall, did he get fired, what were we going to do if he did! We wouldn't be able to catch up on the bills and how would we get food? " Chase go on." " Well um... He said he was making cutbacks, because he didn't have enough money to pay all the workers he had hired. And so, he let me go." My heart just stopped, it was all over, everything we owned loved and cared for was going to be taken away from us. After that day the world just gave away under all of our feet, and remained that way.
