CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE:

It came after the song Broken Pieces. I expected a ballad, similar to their song, Amnesia. But it was not. It was, simply put, brilliant. I listened intently, taking in every single word that was sung. Every note. Every melody.

You throw me around like your rag doll
And throw me away like your cigarettes
And pick up the pieces of whatever's left of me,
They're yours to keep

A million and one ways that I've tried
To turn it around, leave it all behind
But every time you turn out to be
One step ahead of me

Lost in reality
I can feel you in the dark when I fall asleep
All that's in my head are pictures of memories,
Words that you said to me
Hey hey Hailey, won't you save me?
Bittersweet chemistry
I can't escape you anywhere, even in my dreams
All that's in my head are pictures of memories,
Words that you said to me
Hey hey Hailey, won't you save me?

Under all the lights in the night sky
You drift away, then you disappear
Counting the days 'til I bring you back
To me, eventually

And my strung-out heart needs your angel eyes
Then tear me apart and I'm hypnotised
Let's pick up the pieces of whatever's left of me,
They're yours to keep

Lost in reality
I can feel you in the dark when I fall asleep
All that's in my head are pictures of memories,
Words that you said to me
Hey hey Hailey, won't you save me?
Bittersweet chemistry
I can't escape you anywhere, even in my dreams
All that's in my head are pictures of memories,
Words that you said to me
Hey hey Hailey, won't you save me?

Lost in reality
I can feel you in the dark when I fall asleep
All that's in my head are pictures of memories,
Words that you said to me
Hey hey Hailey, won't you save me?

Lost in reality

I was in tears by the time the final note was sung. It was perfect. He had written it perfectly. I hated that he had used my middle name, but I loved it too. I felt awful about the way things had ended. He deserved some kind of an explanation.

He still loved me, I thought to myself. And I still loved him. I never stopped. I looked over at Bev, who had her eyes on me. I loved her, too. She had been there through the worst parts of my split from Michael. She had been my bestfriend, and the perfect girlfriend, knowing that I was still in love with somebody else.

"I need to find him." I said to her.

"What about us?" She asked. I could not answer her. I didn't know what might happen if Michael and I met again. I couldn't guarantee that we wouldn't get up to our old antics.

I caught Bev's lips with my own, making a silent promise that I would not stop loving her. No matter what.
