After that day, Cassel and Calico haven't tried any escape attempts. Cassel reads every door he passes by daily. Hoping one might lift his spirits out of the dumps, which never happens. Calico sharpens her senses each night to hear every guard pass by her door, exactly every 5 minutes.

Days turn into weeks and weeks turn into months. Everyone becoming more and more dull, Calico can't take it. Every since Cassel let the become captured, she has trained harder and harder, no heading Darion's warning.

I don't care if they are watching me. They should, they should become fearful of what I will become!

She hasn't kissed Cassel since then, they haven't seen each other in a long time. Calico uses her rage to fill her each day for the day she meets with Kiro again and army of guards.

Cassel woke up and was dragged out of bed, and dressed for the day. Jurgay brings Cassel through the winding hallways to the Social Hour Room. "What are we doing here." Cassel questions, he hasn't been in here for months. Jurgay, emotionless throws Cassel in the room, shuts the door and locks it. Cassel looks around and finds Calico next to him. She looks at him with a scared look.

Cassel feels relieved to see her lovely face again, although her short hair is new. He walks toward her with open arms to get punched in the face. "I don't think I needed that?" Cassel steps back in surprise. "You did, but I forgive you of your incompetence." She embraces Cassel. " I'm sorry I let us get captured after all your work to get free." Cassel talks and walks hand in hand with Calico.

Cassel notices that there is a new 13 year old boy sitting in the room, scared and shivering. He has black hair that shines red when the light is just right. His light blue irises turn white and he disappears into her shadow. His partner rolls her eyes and he turns into her shadow behind her.

Her blond hair floats behind her as she walks around, her eyelids hiding her brown, chestnut irises. Cassel realizes that she started to walk toward them with such purpose. Each stride is equally threatening as the last. She walks somewhat like a cougar about to pounce on her prey.

Calico notices Cassel staring at the new girl and starts to feel some heat coming to her face. She squeezes his hand and meets this blond girl. "Hey, I'm Calico and this is Cassel. We haven't been here in a while and I don't believe we have-" "We haven't met. I would have remembered your scent before. I'm Max, and this-" She turns around, exposing her partner, "Is Matt."

Matt stares at Calico and blushes, "I c-can introduce-ce my myself-f" Matt manages to say out. He straightens himself out and his eyes turn to find Cassel's. His towering height makes Matt feel like a mouse, and his spiky hair and earring makes him look intimidating. Matt's eyes turn white and he hides back into Max/s shadow. "So, your friend here can hide himself in shadows, huh? Well, isn't that something." Calico states.

Calico watches Max, as she rolls her brown eyes and looks around, "And? What of it? You think you can do something more useful?" "Maybe I just might. I'll just demonstrate it right here and now for yeah." But before Calico could swipe her claws at Max, Cassel retains her. "I apologize for Calico's behavior. I'm sure she will cool off soon enough to have a decent conversation with you." Cassel bluffs.

"All Mutes must get their schedule." The intercom informs everyone, it was Zlorgon's voice. Cassel and Calico show the new partners to the exit and Matt comes back to form, out of Max's shadow. Cassel is the first one to get his schedule followed by Calico. After she gets her schedule, she immediately grabs for Cassel's hand. Matt and Max get their schedules and find out that Cassel and Matt have the same schedule while Max and Calico have the same schedule. 

As Cassel walks out with Matt, Matt quickly moves into Cassel's shadow. Calico and Max follow Teya  into the darkness, while Cassel and Matt follow Jurgay.
