Avalon's P.O.V
"Avalon, honey, you have to get out of the house."
"Fuck off. No I don't," I huffed at my best friend as I shoved another spoonful of cookie dough ice cream in my mouth. Other than going to school, I'd been sitting in the same spot since exactly a week ago. That was when I broke up with Luke and to top it all off, Mother Nature decided to make her monthly visit the day after that happened, so I was feeling extra emotional.
I stared intently at the television, where 10 Things I Hate About You was playing. It probably wasn't the greatest movie choice, but I really didn't care at this point. My heart was already in two, so why not crush it a little more?
"I get you're still salty and stuff, but you could tone it down you know," Scarlett advised. I shot her daggers as I put more ice cream in my mouth and she shot her hands up in defense. "C'mon, it's been a week."
"If Ashton broke up with you you'd be heartbroken, so shut up," I shot back.
Yeah, those two were finally dating and apparently they were "madly in love." It was all bullshit anyway. High school love didn't exist, end of story.
"True, but I wouldn't be sitting here eating my weight in ice cream," Scarlett countered.
"Don't even kid yourself yes you would."
"Avalon that's not my point," she groaned. "You need to be doing something to keep him off your mind, not sitting around doing nothing."
"I'm not doing nothing. I'm finishing this tub of ice cream," I corrected in all seriousness. I didn't want to go do something; I wanted to stay home and wallow in my self pity while watching cheesy romance movies and throwing ice cream at the TV whenever I deemed necessary. That beat going out any day in my opinion.
Scarlett had different plans as she stood up and turned off the TV. I yelled in protest but she just ignored me as she walked over to where I was cuddled up in my jelly bean blanket on the couch and literally pried the tub of ice cream out of my hand. I crossed my arms in annoyance as she sat on my recliner next to the couch.
"Avalon, I understand that your heart hurts and you're upset, but what you're doing is no way to get over him. You need to go do something fun or something you love. How about we go to that diner you like?"
"I'm not hungry," I shrugged, not really lying. I did just eat a full tub of ice cream.
"The mall?"
"My legs hurt. I don't want to walk." Again, not a lie, but it was just another excuse.
"Ice skating?"
"Cause that worked out so well the last time."
"Bitch, stop being bitter and difficult. I will get you out of this house if it is the last thing I do so you better pick something to do or else," Scarlett threatened sternly. I knew I was stronger than her and I knew that she knew that, so she couldn't physically hurt me.
She did have a point though. Maybe actually doing something with my life would help me get Luke off my mind. It was the end of November, so there was literally nothing to do. Everything was basically seasonal and by seasonal I meant they were open during every season except for winter.
I practically saw the light bulb go off above my head as I stood up dramatically. Scarlett looked at me wide eyes and I grabbed a jacket.
"Let's do something rebellious," I said, taking her hand and leading her out of the front door.
"Glad to have you back," she laughed as we climbed into my mom's car and I drove off.
--------
"Are you sure about this?" Scarlett asked skeptically as we walked into the tattoo parlor. I nodded and went up to the front desk where a short blonde lady sat.
"What can I do for you ladies today?" she questioned.
"Hi, I'm looking to get my nose pierced today," I answered, feeling my best friend gaping beside me.
"Alrighty. Are you 18 or older?" she continued. I reached into my wallet and pulled out my ID.
"Okay, if you'll just fill this out and bring it back up here when you're done, he'll take you right in," she smiled, handing me a form attached to a clipboard. I nodded and Scarlett and I sat down in the waiting area seats.
"You're getting your nose pierced? Are you insane?" she exclaimed quietly. We were the only customers in the shop which was awkward, but I somewhat expected it. Nobody went out on Thursdays.
"I've been wanting to do this since I was 16 and now I can. Plus, I think I'd look hot with a nose ring," I admitted, not looking up as I continued to fill out the consent form. It didn't take long and before I knew it, I was being called into the back room. Scarlett tried to follow me but the front desk lady stopped her.
"Honey, you can't go back there with her. Please take a seat in the waiting area and she'll be right out," she instructed. Scarlett nodded and took a seat as I continued.
"Avalon," I heard her call. I whipped my head around and she was smirking at me. "Don't die."
I laughed and nodded as I pushed the door open to reveal a little room. A big man with tattoos covering every inch of his skin except for his face and bald head was standing by a chair. Once the door clicked shut noticed my presence and smiled.
"Please take a seat," he gestured and I did as I was told. "What's your name?"
"Avalon," I breathed, suddenly feeling slightly nervous. "What's yours?"
"James," he answered with amusement laced in his voice. He probably wasn't used to people caring what his name was. "What prompted you to want your nose pierced?"
I bit my lip as I looked at the needle in his hand. I closed my eyes and leaned my head back on the headrest. "I needed a change."
--------
"How'd it go?" Scarlett asked once I stepped out. "Oh my God Avalon you're crying?"
"No I just got it on this side," I informed, turning my head so she could see my freshly pierced nose accompanied by my watering eye on the same side. I walked up to the counter to pay as Scarlett called out that I looked hot.
"Have a wonderful day," the lady smiled and I returned it. As I was about to walk out, I had another urge and turned to Scarlett.
"I'll be right back," I said, rushing back over to the desk.
"Excuse me?" I piped up. Her head shot up and she sent me a warm smile.
"What's up sweetheart?" she asked.
I bit my lip, contemplating if I actually wanted to do this. Finally, I decided to stop thinking about it and just do it.
"Can I set up an appointment to get a tattoo?"
--------
I have a nose piercing and it's honestly the greatest thing I've ever invested in.
And I kid you not I got mine done during summer 2015 and as soon as school started everyone started getting a nose piercing. Even though I'm probably just flattering myself, I like to believe I started a trend.
Except I can't wear hoops because they don't look good on me and the last time I did it got stuck and it took an hour, help from my mother, and a bucket and a half of tears to get it out. Never again.
Also, this is 2019 Taylor speaking, and I'm not addicted to tattoos? Like I got my first one in the beginning of 2017 and then I got three more throughout 2018 and now I have ten more planned that I want to get soon. I know I'm getting one next month with my roommates and then I'm probably getting another one in May and those are the only two out of the planned ones that I have a timeline for and the only one that's for sure is the one for next month.
Anyway, tattoos are tricky because I have to get small ones that aren't that noticeable due to my profession and major (broadcast reporting). Right now, the tattoos I have are on the back of my shoulder, the back of my neck, the side of my ankle, and behind my ear. The most noticeable one will probably be the one I'm getting next month and that's going on the side of my wrist and I also have another one planned to go on the inside of my other wrist. I think those are going to be the only ones that will be easy to see.

I have six piercings: one in my left nostril, doubles in my ears, and my right cartilage. For tattoos, I have a paper airplane and dotted trail on the back of my right shoulder, a crescent moon and star on the back of my neck, a lightning bug on the outside of my left ankle, and the Scorpio symbol behind my left ear.
