When I awake the next day it's 3:30 in the afternoon. I was so tired when we got in I fell asleep in the clothes I had on. I look over and see Emory is still passed out. I get up and go over to my dresser to get some clothes to put on. I settle on a pair of jeans and a red and white striped Aeropostale shirt. Before hopping in the shower, I need to wake Emory up.
"Emmy, wake up," I lightly shake her.
She stirs slightly, but doesn't wake up.
"Emory, get up," I shake her a little harder.
"Huh?" She groans and her eyes flutter open.
"Get up, it's almost 4. We need to go talk to our teachers and get copies of the statements we wrote."
She gives a heavy sigh and I make my way to the bathroom to get ready.
Once we are both dressed we head to the classes we've missed. Our teachers got word of what happened through some students. Emory and I head out to the police station to get copies of the statements we wrote. We walk inside and head to the front desk.
"How can I help you girls?" the officer behind the desk asks.
"Hi, I'm Kaydence Matthews and this is my friend Emory Washington. Our friend was shot last night and we need copies of the statements we wrote to take back to school."
"What's your friend's name?"
"Tai, T-A-I, Alsina, A-L-S-I-N-A."
"Just a moment," he gets up and walks away.
Emory and I wait almost 15 minutes before he comes back with the copies.
"Here you are, anything else?" he sits back at his desk.
"No, thank you," I take the copies from him.
Emory and I leave and I head towards the hospital. I want to check in on Tai and see how he's doing. Luckily, the hospital isn't too far from the police station. Within a matter of minutes, we pull into the parking lot.
We walk inside and make our way to Tai's room. I lightly knock on the door and hear a female voice tell us we can come in. We walk in to see the nurse has just finished changing Tai's bandages. She drops the old blood stained bandages in the trash and leaves.
"Wassup y'all?" Tai smiles.
"Hey, how are you feeling?" Emory asks.
"Better. Those pain killers got ya boy feelin' good!"
"That's good," I smile.
"Come here, lemme talk to you," Tai motions for me to come closer.
"Uh, on that note, I'ma head downstairs and get me a snack. I'm starving."
"You don't have to–" Tai starts.
"No, it's okay. I'll be back in a few."
And with that, she disappears. I grab the closest chair and slide it next to the bed. Tai takes my hand. I instantly grow nervous.
Tai laughs, "It's okay, I just want to talk to you."
"W-what about?"
"Look, I know the night of your birthday we talked, but this has been drivin' me crazy and I need to get it off my chest."
"What are you talking about?" I'm confused.
"Kay, I can't stop thinkin' 'bout you. Ever since that night, I can't get you off my mind. I just have to tell you that I love you."
