Chapter 12

KAYLA POV

I wake up to see trees. Lots and lots of trees. How did I get here? It's so cold. I try to get up off the ground. My shirt is dirty and has blood on it. How did it get bloody? Is it even my blood? I stand up and look around. My sense of direction is all wonky. I start panicking. I've woken up in a forest and I have no idea what happened to me.

"My name is..." I try saying to calm my nerves but I don't know my name. "My mom is..." Don't remember. "My best friend is..." I don't know. "I am..." I don't even know my age. "I have..." Don't know about siblings either. I hear rustling in the trees close to me. Is it an animal or a human? I curl up in a ball and cry. There's no hope for me. Why aren't my parents rescuing me?

Deciding to explore, I pick myself up and start walking. The rustling noises are getting louder. Footsteps. "Help! Help me!" I scream. The footsteps are louder now. They seem to be getting closer. They should be within my line of vision. No one. Am I imagining things too? Bang! "Ow!" I hold the back of my head and turn around. A huge thing is about to jump on me. I try to run but it tackles me and I hit my head on a rock. The world slowly fades to black. I don't want to be unconscious again.

ELLE POV

"I suggest that we keep going. I'll use the Point Me spell to figure out which way to go and so we don't get lost," Ruben says. We walk for what seems like hours, even though it's only been a couple minutes, according to Jamie.

"I'm bored. Let's play a game. I don't really know Ruben that well and you don't know us well. We should ask each other questions and you have to tell the truth," I suggest.

"No," Jamie says. He's such a buzzkill.

"Got any better ideas?" Ruben asks him. Nothing. "Thought so. I'll go first. Elle, would you ever want to meet your parents?" I think about that.

"I don't know. My mom was insane and my dad was also insane but in a less insane way," I answer. They both give me a look. "I mean that Bellatrix was 'torture people because she's bored' insane and Voldemort was 'kill everyone' insane."

"Oh. Jamie, what house were you in and what was your favourite subject?" Ruben says.
"Gryffindor. And DADA was pretty cool," he answers as we wind through the forest. "I got no questions. Elle, you ask Ruben something." I trip over a log that I didn't see.

"Ow! Rock in my shoe. Do you actually have a girlfriend? And if no, do you like Kayla?" I wink at him. He sticks his tongue out at me. I take off my shoe and shake the rock out. It's dark and has a crack down the middle. I stick it in my pocket to examine it later.

"I have a girlfriend and her name is Nicole," he answers. We walk the rest of the way in silence. "Look. There have been wolves here." We walk more cautiously now.

"Look out!" A black beast is heading towards us with remarkable speed. Jamie waves his wand and the beast is on the ground.

"You'd make a good Auror," Ruben tells him. He blushes a light red.

"Let's follow where the wolf came from," I suggest.
