I was listening to the radio sitting on my desk. It was the only thing we had because of how poor our family was.

"Attention to all girls between the age of 16 and 20! We are having a contest that every girl must enter who lives in Parilisa. This contest is to find out who Prince Louis' future wife would be. If you are between that age then you need to imediately go to the Library downtown. They will have all the information you will need."

I looked at my mother in dis-belief. There's no way I would do this. I have to though. There's no way out. He probably wouldn't choose me though. There's tons of girls that will be entering and they are much prettier than me. Prince Louis would never want me.

Or so I thought...

***

We figured out what I have to do. I have to sign up for this "choosing" and this saturday we have a drawing of ten girls out of about a hundred. Then those ten go up to the castle and get to know Prince Louis. Then he eliminates as he goes. Then the last one is the one to marry him because he prefers her more than the others.

I heard that Prince Louis was really good looking and every girl is practically drooling over him... except me.

Anyway, I and Mother are sewing my dress for the drawing.

"God, Mum. I'm so scared," I said.

"Why should you be scared, Baby?" She asked.

"I don't want to go up to the palace and stay away from you," I said and started crying.

"Shh... Its going to be fine, baby. You won't get your name drawed. I promise. There are tons of other girls that are signing up." She rubbes my back in a soothing manner.

"Thanks mum," I whisper and hug her tightly, she probably was struggling to breathe.

We finished the dress and it turned out quite gorgeous. It was exspensive to make but we have to wear nice clothes for the drawing.

The dress is a white one that ends right above my knee. I can twirl in it too. It is off-the-shoulder and has a jeweled up belt around it.

Man, its gorgeous. My mother smiled at our work.

"Carson, you are an amazing sewer baby," my mother said.

"Thanks mum." I blushed.

"Try it on!" My mother shoved the dress into my arms. I walk to the bathroom and change. I look into the mirror and smile. It is absolutely gorgeous. Those girls are going to be so jealous.

I walk out of the bathroom to see my mother with wide eyes and jaws dropped to the floor. I giggled.

"You look beautiful, Carson," she said and pulled me in for a hug. She walked over to her closet and picked up a pair of light pink heels that she wears to church.

"Mum, I can't wear these. These are your church shoes."

"You are though. They'd look pretty with that dress. Now, how to do your hair..." She started messing with my hair and pulled it into a messy bun. Some of my caremel curls fell out but it was really pretty. She grabbed her makeup and put some blush on my cheeks then she put on some black mascara on my lashes which made my blue eyes stand out. Then she pulled out a shiny light pink lip gloss.

When she was done we couldn't keep our eyes of me.

"Well now I just have to wait until Saturday to show this off," I said. Mum smiled and kissed my cheek.

"He won't keep his eyes off you," she whispered. I felt a knot in my throat. Will he? I can't let him like me, I have stay with mother. She can't be left alone while I would be in the palace living the best life.

Prince Louis is not someone I want to spend my life without my mother with. But it is his choice, not mine.

We'll just have to see what he thinks...
