Kevin's POV
The library was empty, and smelt faintly of gasolene. I spent the better part of an hour searching the Bunker for signs of Sam or Dean. Just as I walked into the kitchen, about to give up I heard a voice from behind me, "Kevin?".I turned around to see Castiel, not wearing his trenchcoat for once, looking at me quizically.
"Castiel?" I asked back, just as confused as he was. Last time I'd seen Castiel, he'd been human and he'd just left the bunker after Dean asked him to.
"Kevin, what's going on? How are you here?" Cas asked, taking a few steps towards me, I took a few steps back. Something didn't feel right.
"How can you even be sure it's really me? Shouldn't you be a little more cautious?" I inquired, confusion lining my tone. Unsure as to why I was even asking him this.
Cas's frown became more apparent as his eyebrows drew closer together, "Kevin, I can tell it's you, I'm an angel," he said. That was when I knew something was up.
I pulled out a kitchen knife from the block beside me, I brandished it in front of me and took a step forward. Cas faltered, I could tell he wasn't expecting me to pull a knife on him. "You aren't Castiel then," I stated, firmly, "Castiel's grace is gone, he's a human now, so who are you?" I asked, waving the knife threateningly.
Castiel straightened up, looking pretty worse for wear. "Kevin," he started, reaching towards me, "I can see how you're confused, but I was a human three years ago," I blinked in shock. "You've been dead for three years," he continued before stopping and tilting his head curiously, as if listening to something faint. His eyes widened, "I need to call Sam and Dean," he said before taking off out the door.
I dropped the knife back on the kitchen counter and sat on the cold, tile floor. Linking my hands behind my head, I attempted to process all of this. I was dead? How the hell is it possible for me to be here now?!
I heard distant clanging and a female voice call out, "Boys?! Anyone home?!"
I got to my feet hesitantly, making my way to the front room. A girl with shoulder-length red hair stood there in jeans and a Lord of the Rings t-shirt, her brown eyes widened as she saw me.
"Um, who're you?" She asked, looking a little scared.
"I, uh, I'm Kevin," I said lamely, not quite sure why I was telling her. I was honestly just happy to run with anything right now.
She paused and bit the inside of her cheek, "right. Well I'm Charlie," she said, putting her hand out. I shook it cautiously and frowned at her. "Are Sam and Dean here," she asked, looking slightly awkward.
I shook my head, "no, but Cas just went and called them so..." I said, not knowing where the hell I was going with that.
"Charlie?" Came a voice from the stairs behind us, Cas stood there looking like his eyes were gonna pop right out of his head.
"Cas, what the snick snack's going on?" Charlie said, walking up to him. I scrunched my nose up, who the hell talks like that?
"Heaven seems to be falling apart," Cas explained, "a few thousand people have been thrown back on earth, into their bodies in the places where they died. Which explains why Kevin woke up here," he said, looking at me.
Charlie huffed, "yeah, and it explains why I woke up in a motel bathroom and had to creep past the happy couple snoozing in the bed and hot-wire a car out of there. This whole 'dying and coming back to life' thing sure doesn't get any easier," she said, causing me to laugh.
She looked at me quizically, I stopped laughing, seeing that she was dead serious. "Wait, you've died and come back to life before?!" I asked incredulously.
She laughed, "well yeah, I'm a hunter, right? Kinda in the job description," she said, punching me on the arm. I smiled back at her, I had a feeling we were gonna get along really well.
