When young girls are good, you expect them to get a reward. And,in most circumstances, they do. And when young girls are bad, you expect them to get nothing or a punishment. And, they do in fact, get nothing or be punished.

Yet one girl, who was a bright and kind girl at that, was always punished. Why? Well, no one really knows. They knew she had been punished because of the red and sometimes blue marks on her arms, legs and even her head. Maybe she fell down the stairs and her family couldn't afford bandages or cream. Or maybe she was a messy child and drew the marks on with a crayon.

However, this was not the case as they soon found out that she had, and was being abused. How is that possible? She is the most nicest girl I've ever seen! No parent would ever dream of doing that! Well, they did. And they still do it. Poor Emily was always being abused. When she had got ninety percent on a test, they would hit her.
When she learnt a new word and what it meant, they would hit her.

One day, Emily was sitting on the dull grey carpet in her bedroom, reading a book. It was the same book she read the day before, and the week before and so on. She didn't have many toys nor books, she only had her parents and her mind. She looked through the pages eagerly, searching, pleading, desperately looking for the tiniest detail she might of missed. But alas, she found herself looking at the stained walls and the stained floor.

Bangs and yells rung through the house.  She ignored it, since it was usual for this to happen. She continued reading until it was dark. She climbed onto the mattress (what was left of it anyway) and closed her eyes.
