City of Manassa, Planet Reach- 2552 2100 Hours~Rebeka P.O.V.~
The civilians were now whispering to each other. Possibly about surviving or even about us. But we, the team, haven't spoken. We were to concentrated on saving the civilians. No matter the cost.
It was about 30 minutes now since we have been walking. It was hard to believe that this city has become now dust and ashes. We got news also that half the planet is becoming ashes and dust.
I frowned looking at my team. It was our home. We can't just hand it to them. Right? No there is no time to be rethinking about everything. The roster blinked again. I pulled it up. Spartan 320 - Kat AKA Catherine.
Noble Two? Wow Noble Five died not too long ago, just couple hours before? Even Noble is having a hard time. Wonder how Blue Team is hanging...didn't see any of their teammates on the roster. Probably cause John won't allow that.
"Alright we made it." Daniel hollered making the civilians stop.
"Ok I will climb the ladder to see if there is any Covies." James said walking passed everyone to the ladder.
We watched him make his way to the top, popping the lid, than peered out. "Alright, every thing looks clear," he pushed the lid off and climbed through and out the sewage pipe. "Toria come up here than lets start having the civilians come up." He ordered looking around.
Toria hurriedly went up than poking her head down at us. "Alright buddy you go first." I looked at the kid.
The kid looked at his mother. "I will be right behind you." She whispered kissing his head before having him go.
They all went one by one. They were quiet, which was good due of the covenant on their asses. "Alright I am heading up." I said climbing the ladder.
Toria's head moved as I was reached to the top. That's when I heard a needler rifle go off. It hit Toria, blood splattered on my visor, quickly I pulled myself out, and crouch with Toria's body right under me. "Sniper!" I yelled pulling out my sniper.
Noticing I had no ammo, the civilians scattered like rats being caught in a dark basement. Screaming they tried to find somewhere to hide. James on the other hand shot twice and the Jackal fell off the building with a loud smack to fall behind it.
Daniel popped up, getting out, and than started to scan the area. I looked down to Toria than moved to her side quickly. She wasn't facing me, so I slid my arm around her neck lifting her head, and had her face me. My heart dropped. Her visor was shattered. "Toria?" I asked shaking her a bit.
There wasn't any answer. Not even a breathing sound. I took her helmet off, to reveal a bullet wound straight in the middle of her forehead, and her blue eyes open. I heard James sigh with irritation. I closed my eyes putting my head down. "Damn it." I whispered.
"Oh no." I heard a civilian gasp.
I placed my hand on her eyes, flipping them shut. Daniel sighed. "We have to go, I am picking up covenant bogeys coming our way."
James shifted than nodded. "Lets get going." He faintly said.
Approving that we had to move on. I put her helmet back on and picking her up. Having her arm dangle off of the side, having her limp, with no other movement but her arm swaying.
Letting the civilians go ahead of me before walking behind them. It was quiet with the sound of the ghostly wind brushing past us. "We are almost to the rendezvous point." James said looking ahead.
"Mommy?" the little boy asked starting to wrap his arms around her neck.
"Yea?" she whispered.
"We are going to be ok? Even after one of thems died?" he asked looking at me.
She nodded not saying another word. Probably because if she says something, she will be..."Do you want me to carry her?" I looked over and Daniel was next to me.
I shook my head. "No if we get slowed down I will just set her down, grab her tags, and have to move on."
I frowned thinking about leaving her behind. I looked down at her started to have flashback of us. Training, meeting, and sometimes laughing at the boys. I shook my head pushing them aside.
Focus. Focus. Don't have it bother you. Focus. Not just a minute later pink needles and blue and green plasma went passed all of our heads. James started to shoot and telling all of us to run.
I looked down at Toria setting her down. I grabbed her dog tags, it had Jake's too. I felt stinging in my eyes. No. Spartans don't cry. I ripped it off and looked back at James he started to head back with us. I got up and started to sprint. Being behind all the civilians.
We saw the pelican start landing. James than was next to me. Running towards the pelican, one needler went zooming passed us and hitting the small child. "No!" the mother screamed turning to grab him but I scooped him up. She went in the pelican, looking at me with horrified eyes.
I set the child on the ground, reaching up in the one of the compartments and grabbing a sniper out. I zoomed and started to shoot. The door started to close slowly, James and Daniel started to shoot with me. Hitting a couple. I stopped looking at Toria's lifeless body.
The door went up and shut. Leaving our comrade and the memory behind.
