Monica's POV
Work goes well on Friday because Mr. Wellington announced that whoever can make more than fifty sales next week will receive a $5,000 bonus at the end of the month. Next week I will work harder than I ever have before; Jesy and I need this. Both of us have been wanting to do a treat yo self day at the mall, and this money would be perfect for that. I don't want to tell her about it until I've won because I don't want to get her hopes up.
"I think you have a fair shot at the money." Josh says as I make my way from the conference room back to my office.
"A very slim one at the least. I think he'll give it to Nancy though." I say. Nancy acts like a total teacher's pet.
"Why?" Josh asks.
"I think Nancy is a little more than just his employee even though they're both married." I say. Bill told me he caught them having sex in Mr. Wellington's office after the holiday party last year. She has a very good chance at the money if they're still together.
"That doesn't mean anything. He said the person who makes the most sales wins the money." Josh says.
"True, but I feel like he might give her easy clients or say she made more sales than she actually did." I say. Mr. Wellington seems like the person who might do that. Especially since she probably pleases him more than his wife does. Whenever Mrs. Wellington comes to the office he tenses up.
"I don't think he would do that. He seems to like people who actually do work. Besides Nancy is always on her phone when I see her." Josh says. I guess I do have a better chance than I thought. Some of the employees tend to slack off a lot.
For the rest of the day at work I try to make as many sales as I can as practice for next week. If Josh is right I could win the money. Everyone would learn to respect me. I think the main reason I haven't made many friends here is because I'm so young; because I'm "inexperienced".
Jesy is already home when I arrive. She is in the kitchen making cookies for tonight. She makes the best chocolate chips because she adds a few mint chips as well.
"How was you day?" Jesy asks as she scoops out the dough and puts it on the cookie sheets.
"It was good. Did you get off of work early today?" I ask. Normally I'm home at least an hour before she is.
"Yeah. I was supposed to cut Mrs. Brinkley's hair at five, but she canceled. I think she hates us because of what Harry did to her bushes." Jesy says. Why can't she learn to let stuff go?
"She sure can hold a grudge." I say.
"Yeah. She told me she couldn't make it today, and that Sandra would cut her hair tomorrow, but everyone who's had both of us cut their hair says I'm way better." Jesy says. Sandra cut my hair once when we first moved in. She did a terrible job; my hair was crooked. She also gave me bangs which I didn't ask for.
"Sandra is terrible at her job. Why would anyone want her to cut their hair." I say.
"She probably thinks I'm gonna have Harry pee on her hair instead of use shampoo when I wash it." Jesy says.
"She kinda deserves it for hating us so much." I say. She's done some horrible stuff to us because of what Harry did. One time our mail accidentally went to her house. She opened it then threw it out. She left us a note saying our bills were in her trash, and that if we wanted them we had to fish them out before the garbage man picked up her trash.
"Agreed." Jesy says as she puts the cookies in the oven.
"I'm going to go get ready for dinner." I say as I walk to my closet to find something nice to wear.
