¨Humph,¨ Haley muttered under her breath; desperately wishing Destani would shut up. Destani was going on and on about how beautiful she thinks she looks and her latest boy toy. Haley had to admit she was pretty, but she wasn't interested in listening to Destani be egotistical. Destani's boy gossip would be interesting- if Haley had any interest in boys.

¨Wow,¨ Destani mutters, catching another glimpse of her perfectly applied makeup self in the bus window. ¨I DO look good today.¨ Haley sighed again; Destani was annoying but she had a good heart. Haley finally piped up, ¨Yes Destani, you look gorgeous.¨ Destani smiled happily, content with combing her perfectly blonde highlighted hair with her fingers; the window acting as her mirror.

Haley also smiled as she finally got to continue reading her book- she was on the last chapter and she kept getting interrupted. Before Haley could even read a sentence the giant yellow prison bus came to a stop signaling that they had arrived at the school. She groaned again, she would never finish the book now!

Maybe she'd have time at lunch? She perked up a little before realizing that it was Wednesday (the school is late start and all the classes are shorter to allow for a teacher meeting in the morning before school). On late start Wednesdays Haley has a different lunch than usual. This wouldn't be a problem if she didn't share Wednesday lunch with Destani.

Haley shoved her book in her backpack and stood up, ready to exit the bus with all the other high school students. She hated waking up so early every morning. Who was the stupid idiot who decided that 7:20 was a good time? If she had her choice she'd just sleep and read all day. She doesn't wear makeup but it was still a hassle to deal with her gorgeously frizzy reddish-brown hair. At least this was her last year waking up this early. After this year she was off to college. What she was going to study, well she wasn't quite sure yet.

It sucks having to ride the bus even though she was 18, but what was a girl to do? She didn't really mind it much- driving was such a hassle. Haley shivers as she steps off the bus into the dreary January Washington weather. She hurry's inside intent on getting warm. She heads to her 1st period calculus class. No ones in the class yet, score! Maybe she will have time to quickly finish the book.

As she rushes into the classroom Haley trips. She lays on the floor awkwardly, debating if this is the moment where she should finally decide to give up on life. Deciding she wants to go out with a bang and death by tripping would not do her any justice; she gets up. Rubbing her bruised wrist, she sits in her seat. Other students were starting to arrive in the classroom, talking and laughing among themselves. Haley would really never be able to finish her book.
