Chapter 15: Forbidden Love

I skim through multiple job listings on a website as I sit down in an office chair at Kaitlyn's computer. One of my paw's resting on my cheek as I scroll. My eyes begin to strain.

Most openings are food related. Ugh..

I don't think I did this yet. I'll do it now.
You already know my name, I'm a Border Collie with brown, black, and white fur. I'm 5' 11" and straight. I'm all about respect and honor. I never like to tell a lie. Some people look at me and assume I would punch their face in if they talked to me, but I'm the opposite! I mean, I would talk to you, not accept a punch from you.. I was a bodyguard/security guard for about year, but you know I lost that job. I grew up here in California in a good home with great parents so I can't imagine how it feels to not. I still don't know what came over me at the mall with Kaitlyn, but it's in the past now.

I hate grocery stores and I have worked at a restaurant before, but I didn't get along with a certain co-worker... So I resigned before they could fire me after we decided to have a little "food fight". I was good at being a bodyguard. I enjoyed it a lot.

I open a new tab in the browser and type in NorthPaw Police Department's website. I navigate to their FAQ page and read about joining the nearby police academy.

Well, if I'm going to attend I need do have background checks and exams done. I hope my history doesn't stop me from becoming a police officer.. What happens if I don't want to go through with it?

I need to think about this.

Well. I'm not crazy so the physiological exam should be a breeze, I studied law and took classes in high school. I also took a class here at the college last year. So maybe the exams won't be that hard..? I think I'm all set physically...

I never saw myself as a cop, but now that I think about it...

I shouldn't just jump into this.

"Hey, how's the job search?" Kaitlyn asks, walking up to me from behind.

"Good I guess. A lot of bad listings, but I think I found something.." I say as I turn around.

She comes in closer and looks at the screen of her computer. Her eyes light up, but return to normal as she pulls away from the screen.

"So you want to become a cop?"

"I'm thinking about it, I was a bodyguard and a security guard before. I studied law in high school and at the college last year. I might take another class after finals."

"Well, it's a dangerous job. Are you sure?"

"Not yet. Although I can't help, but feel like I'm gonna go for it anyways. I don't want to work in a restaurant again and my boss probably won't give my old bodyguard job back."

Which sucks, I got paid good money..

"I say you should go for it. Do whatever you think is going to make you happy, a grocery store surely won't. You have experience from being a guard, they'll probably like that along with the Law classes."
