The rock's where an egg had been placed had been washed clean by the fresh sea water that lapped up onto to it occasionally. The rock was on a large beach that had a clear view of the ocean and the mountains across of it. But most importantly you could see both of the moons from the beach. A dragon emerged from the water glowing and shimmering in the moonlight. Some of her scales glowed and provided a green light. She flicked her tail nervously before noticing the egg that was perched on the rocks. Glancing quickly from left to right she ran over to the egg and grabbed it up snuggling it against her cheek.
"Do you think that tonight it will hatch?" Spoke a deep voice from over in a patch of reeds. A dark figure with scales the color of night stepped from where he was hiding. The dragon holding the egg jumped, bringing her arms up tighter against the egg is defense.
"Oh, Fateroarer it's only you. You scared me half to death!" Said the dragon holding the egg.
"Who else would you find here, Aquario?" Whispered Fateroarer, as he crept closer the Aquario. The egg shook in her talons and started to glow faintly. Quickly with one swift motion she placed the egg down back onto the flat surface of the rock. The egg began to shake violently and started to crack down the middle. The crack grew a dark red color and break open. A talon emerged from the crack and started to push other bits of the egg's surface away. Small parts of eggshell fell on the ground as the dragon emerged completely.
"He's beautiful..." Cooed Aquario reaching out gently with a talon to stroke her newly born dragonet on the snout. The dragonet flinched and sneezed making water splash up around him.
"What should we name him?" questioned Fateroarer quietly examining the small dragonet. The small dragonet looked like a Nightwing, but underneath he had small glowing scales. His underbelly was the color of turquoise or the ocean on a calm night. The small dragon stared back up into his parents eyes.
"Squa..? Squee...?" Chirped the small dragonet, confused. Fateroarer stood back and went into a thinking position.
"How about we name him... Zodiac? " asked Fatespeaker staring right into the eyes of the small dragonet.
"Zo- Zod- Zodec- Z-Zodec, Zodec!!" Squeaked Zodiac in excitement. Aquario clapped in excitement.
Where are we going to keep him?" Wondered Aquario.
We could allow The Talon's of Peace to watch him, if that is still active.." As soon as Fateroarer said this he automatically regretted saying it.
I refuse! Remember how poorly they raised those prophecy dragonets!" Yelled Aquario stomping her foot into the sand.
"Then where should he stay!" Yelled back Fateroarer turning in the sand to see his mate. While the two of them where arguing non-stop, Zodiac noticed a shape flying above them.
"Squeek! Swak!" Chirruped Zodiac frantically trying to get his parents to notice him. The dragon grew closer and began to slow as it began to make it's decent on the beach. Both Aquario and Fateroarer where both to caught up in arguing that they didn't notice the dragon landing behind Zodiac. The dragon picked up Zodiac, frantically jumping right back into the air. "SQUEEE!!!!!" Screeched Zodiac as loudly as he could. His glowing scales flashed in distress. Both of the dragons looked up and saw the dragon running away from the beach. Quickly they took off flying faster than ever.
"Shut up little dragonet!" The dragon holding him hissed through clenched teeth. Soon Aquario and Fateroarer had caught up to mystery dragonet-napper.
"Give us back our little one, You nasty Sandwing!!!" Screeched Aquario enraged. Her scales started to glow vigorously and started to make a strange light that was more than a blue. The wingbeats of the three dragons filled little Zodiac's ears deafening him. He faintly squeaked to tell everyone that he was not pleased but was growing tired.
Quickly Fateroarer jumped on top of the dragon, scratching him on the snout and damaging her underbelly. Blood spattered Zodiac's vision and her screeched in sheer fear. The Sanwing forgot her task and had begun to slip her grip on little Zodiac. Suddenly he dropped. The ground came rushing up toward him and as loud as he could he screamed. The sound that came out of his mouth was a high pitch squeak the was so immensely high pitched only dragons with the best of hearing could hear.
Aquario noticed Zodiac falling toward the sky and she dove under the two grappling dragons who where still fighting in the sky. With a slight thump Zodiac landed right on top of Aquario who had caught him right before he would have hit the cold mud. Langing only a few inches away from the Mud, Aquario set down Zodiac. "Stay here." She told him, "And don't move." Jumping out of the tree's she went to go help Fateroarer who was being overpowered by the Sandwing. A roar filled the sky as Aquario joined the battle. Zodiac stared up at the fight not sue what to think of it. Striking out Fateroarer landed a blow on the dragons neck, causing even more blood to cover the dragon. The Sandwing's tail flicked out and caught Aquario's leg. Aquario let out a cry of pain as the Sandwing's poisioned bard sunk into her foot. Faintly she fell down to the ground.
"NO!" Yelled out Fateroarer. His mate had been killed. Killed. This only meant one thing. Revenge. Fateroarer's breathing hollowed, and slowed. "You...." An edge had crept into his voice and he ended his words with a sharp 'S'. He lunged into the other dragon at full force. His talons pierced the Sandwing's chest, covering his talons with blood. The Sandwing fell from the sky gasping. Without any time to lose Fateroarer flew down to where his mate had fallen. Zodiac ran over to the clearing where his mother had laid.
"Ma?" Squeaked Zodiac.
"Zodiac, Ma is dead."
