You dart behind a wall, avoiding the guards gaze. He walks down the hall, run. You hide behind a potted plant, you are certainly small enough.

You are careful not to wake anyone in the castle, should you wake your sister, she'll beat you up and throw you in your room, locking you in. You hear a small clatter, two guards crashed into each other. The sound sends chills up your spine, you hold the scarf close.

You peer around a corner, nothing. Darting to the next wall. Your bare feet make no sound. You hear a mumbling sound of voices, you take out your sharpened clock hand. The one your mother gave you.

You sigh, the hand giving you the comfort of safety. Thoughts all over the place, but you must keep thinking. Exhaustion and drowsiness will take over.

You are curious, but you are scared. You are tired of this war your father started, power. You know your father is mad, he had gone insane after your mother died. He was crippled and broken, but still dangerous.

You have tried to run away, but guards caught you. Unbeknownst to them, you knew something was going on. The strange roars, the cries of people. You've had enough of no answers.

You run down another hall, your dark red hair swaying as you stop. The hair goes down to the nape of your neck, silver eyes darting looking for anyone awake.

You took after your mother, the thought of her sends your mind into a frenzy of thoughts. That's it, stay awake, on your toes. Sleep won't get you answers.

You play a song in your head, stay awake. You duck as you hear the sound of clunking footsteps. Behind the curtain. That's it, walk away foolish guards.

Down the hall, you see the next flight of stairs. Down, down, down you run. Stick to the shadows, they are your friends.

You have arrived in the basement, good. This is where your father retreats to every night, but it is midnight. He always leaves this room around midnight to go somewhere.

It it 12:01 you know this, the clock chimed 12 a moment ago. Your hearing is not as sharp or aware you want it to be. Fatigue does take its toll, but you don't care.

Tip, toe, right, left, tick, tock. You move to the best in your head that goes with the invisible clock. What? Rub your eyes, just a bit.

You open the door slightly, no one is here. Or is it there? Shut up! The shadows are jabbering again. Some friends, they're real asses sometimes.

You follow the shadows, they're your best bet of helping you. Long corridors of dark brick, stained with blood. The stench of copper reaches your nose, don't let it scare you off.

"Hurry hurry!" Shadows creep at your feet, follow. Hurry hurry, the shadows are telling you something! You know your father will return, soon.

You creep along the hall, stick to the wall. You won't get lost. Your feet are cold, until you step in a puddle of something. Even in the dark, you smell the copper. You grit your teeth.

Don't cry you big baby, you know your father is a monster. This is proof.

"Run!" A shadow yells at me. I don't...until I hear the horrible sound of a man muttering things to himself.

Left corridor, right corridor. Keep going. Left, left, right. You see a red glow in a room, looks like torchlight. Fear sends adrenaline pumping through your veins, keep going. Don't be afraid.

"Run Mana run!" The shadows want you to reach the room. Is it safe? Hopefully. The shadows know as much as you do.

Open the door, close the door slightly. You turn around. Pant pant, calm down. Fear profits no man. Look around you will find something.

You see a large sheet on the floor. Strange, but what makes it stranger is the blood on the floor, it's been traced into foreign patterns.

"Pull the sheet away." You hear a different shadow this time. You don't like it. A foreign voice, the new shadow urges you to pull away the sheet. Hurry, your power is draining and time is running out.

You pull away the sheet, and see a strange circle on the ground. It has been drawn in blood, but along the edges of the circle are words in English. You can understand.

'When the five circles are drawn in blood, finished by blood moon's rising. May the demons of darkness descend on us once again. May the Master of Hell and a God of Madness once again step foot into the dirty world of Etheros.'

You do not understand. A Master of Hell, and a God of Madness?

"Mana, demons, bad demons. Bad, bad, bad!" The shadows screech at the sight of the patterns, and the words.

"Mana! Too late!" The shadows give out a final screech as a torch is lit.

"Mana, why are you down here?" I hear a voice ask. My shadow form has expired, I'm exposed and vulnerable.

I turn around stiffly and look up to see my mad father. His pupils have a red glow, giving his already red eyes an even more menacing look. Even the blue scarf around my neck can't keep away the chills running up and down my back.

"H-hi," I manage to get out. I can feel myself trembling violently. I slowly pull out an item in my back pocket, it may just save my life.

"You were always too nosy for your own good. Looking into things that never concerned you, and now look at yourself. Brink of death."

That was not a threat, that was a promise. And my father always keeps his promises.

He begins to walk towards me, a malicious smile creeping on his face.

"But I do always need more blood. This is only the second circle, maybe you can be of some use to me," he says, pulling a small dagger from his sheath.

I tighten my grip on the sharpened clock hand behind my back, and slash his leg, causing him roar in pain. I run past him and into the confusing corridors, taking the same path I took before.

"Mana!" I ignore the scream and keep running. I end up tripping on something as I'm about to make the last turn. I hear growls and yelling, I look and see that I tripped on a large book.

'Grab it!'

The shadows, they're still here. I grab the book and run, not letting the weight of the book slow me down. I run up the stairs, and down the halls. The guards are gone, but apparently monsters are chasing me.

I keep running until I bump into her.

"Hey brat." I look up and see Hayt, my sister. Her red eyes glare at me, silver hair framing her face.

"I heard what happened, I could hear the yelling. And it looks like someone is in trouble. Dad is right, you are too nosy for your own good," she sneered. She snapped her fingers and her shadow grew into five monsters. They were a dark purple, yellow eyes on me. They stood behind her on all fours, claws digging into the floor, claws that want to dig into me.

"I'll give you the count of five minutes. Make it count," she steps aside, clearing the path. I bolt past her and into darkness. My eyes still have yet to adjust but I know where I am going.

Suddenly, I hear laughing, and yelling.

"Five minutes, five seconds, I'm really bad at understanding the concept to time! Run brat!" I hear thumping noises and that makes me run faster.

Left, right, left. Past the dining hall, past the armory. I'm almost out! Down a set of stairs, I knock over a plant. The monsters are on my tail!

I just have to keep running, straight ahead. Straight ahead! Out of the castle doors, onto the bridge, and into the village. Then I'll be safe.

I am about to open the door when a monster swats me away from the door. I fall to the ground and hear a pop, my ankle is burning in pain.

I am about to try to get up when a large claw pins me to the floor. I look the monster- no demon- in the eyes. It roars at me and is about to devour me, when a flash of light consumes my vision.

When I open my eyes the weight is off my chest, and the castle door is open. I look to the demon and see it is being held back by a golden silhouette, guarding with a sword.

"Run," the figure yells. I only nod and stand up, limping towards the door and picking up the book that was left by the opening. I look back at the figure and it slays the demon, looking my way and nodding at me disappearing afterwards.

I quickly limp to the bridge made of cobblestone. It hurts to be on my feet, but I must keep going. Just as soon as I am at the middle of the bridge, I believe I've escaped, until I see another demon.

"No..," I whimper. I thought I had gotten out! Hayt appears behind me, I hear her laugh.

"Yes, too bad I can't kill you right here, we can't be wasting any blood. And dad needs your blood, maybe a couple of other people's. But you'll bring us one step closer to ending this pitiful world," she screams.

Just as she finishes her statement, one of the demons starts to become jittery. As soon as Hayt is about grab me the excited demon charges towards me. I dodge in time, but the force of the crash causes part of the bridge to crumble.

Sadly, I'm on the crumbling part. And before I know it, I'm plunging into freezing water. The cold sends me into shock and forces me to freeze. I try not to stay stiff, but as soon as I surface, the air chills me even more.

I am far away from the bridge now, but I still hear screaming. I try to paddle to one side of the river to get to land but there is no land.

I try to swim against the current, but it's too strong and I'm too cold. In my pitiful attempt, I didn't hear the crashing of water. And soon, the water carries me over the edge, making me fall down, down, down.

As soon as I hit the water, everything goes black.
