I balanced on the tip of a dragons wing and listened as the wind whistled in my ears as I soared fast above the clouds. I looked down at the familiar red scales. In the distance were striking green ones.
Off to my side were different shades of orange, blue, red,and other types of green joined the mix. I swung my arm in a downwards motion and all the dragons dove into the white fluffy clouds. We soared closer to the ground. They all flapped their wings and came to stop on the ground. It was single hill with miles of outstretched land. The 50 or so dragons that had flown with me could land easily and have a good amount of room to move around. At the top of the hill was a willow tree. Then a single stone. Here lies Alexis Haven
A mother, grandmother,friend and a
Dragon riderIt had been 5 years since we left the society and 2 years since my grandmothers death. While I would give anything to spend more time with her I know she would want me to live my life to the fullest. I place a delicate red rose on the stone. I walk away from the grave stone. A dragon extends it wing and pull myself up onto its back. I give the signal and the dragons and I take off into the sky.
.....
We fly back to the cove. Which is very similar to the last one but much larger. After the years pasted the dragon population went from a small 2,000 to almost 6,000. With so many dragons it was impossible to fit them all in one place. The cove became the central point of all dragon living areas but there were about a hundred more. After my grandma died I was the last dragon rider in the Haven family. There was a group of riders that has survived the poison from the prison all that time ago. They lived among the dragons in harmony. We were a small group of riders but we'd made it. I'd like to believe that maybe there are more dragon riders back in the society. I would never go back to find out though. As we landed I let my fingertips brush the scales of the dragon as a way to say thank you. My clothes were made form the old scales of dragons. Scales that were shed off in replace of stronger ones. I'd dyed them a gray and blackish color.
A/n: look at picture.
The scales over lapped in some places and in others they made designs. My clothing was like armor because dragon scales were almost impossible to puncture. The cove consisted of lots of caves like the old one. Only this time we were closer to the ocean. It was only a minute fly. Like the dragons my diet mostly consisted of different types of fish. The riders and I had a small garden where we grew our own potatoes and other vegetables. Every once in a while I'd find some wild berries that I eat as a treat. I do miss my desserts.
The dragons slept in caves but after awhile the hard rock ground wasn't very comfortable. With the help of Ember and Bane I had created a tree house that was based around 4 main trees. It had a bedroom and living area. There was no ladder to get up. Instead I used the low hanging branches to get up to my "house". The branches were strong and sturdy. Some were far apart from each other and I real had to swing to get to over to them. In the beginning I would miss the branches and would fall flat on my ass. Now I could climb it with ease and with swiftness.
I was on my was to the largest cave we have at the cove. We called it the Great cave. I know creative name. It's what my grandma named it. At first it was a joke but after awhile it just stuck. It could fit around 100 dragons. The ceiling of the cave seemed like it went on forever and the walls never seemed to end. It was where the leaders the other coves came to meet. The other coves were near by max 30 minutes flying. When a problem occurred we called upon the leaders of the coves. They met here and had me sit in and listen. Of course I had refused to join the first meeting because I felt that it should stay between the dragon family. How did they respond? Well....
Don't be modest. After all you've done you are more than family. Come and join us.
Ever since then I would sit on a boulder that would make me equal height with the other dragons.
I waved hello to Bullet on my to the great cave. She was a smaller dragon but she was one of the fastest flyers hence the name. She had orange scales not like neon orange but a soft sunset orange.
I went into the Great Cave to see 2 hatchlings scamper up to me. Although they were almost twice my size they were still considered babies. One girl dragon and one boy. The girl, Emerald, had dark green scales and the boy, Coal, had fiery red scales. Being only one year in age they still hadn't flown yet as their wings weren't quite strong enough but within a few weeks they would be able to take their first flight. Being the intelligent creatures dragons are they already were talking in sentences that made sense, most of the time.
Aunty Scarlet!!!! They shouted when they saw me.
"Hi guys." I said and hugged their necks. "So how were things while I was gone?"
It was boring. Coal said. Emerald smacked him with her tail.
It was okay Aunt Scarlet. Can we play tag? Emerald says and I laugh.
"Sure but go say hello to your parents before okay." I tell them they nod and walk with me to go find their parents.
Mom! Dad! They shout when Ember and Bane come into view. The size difference couldn't have been bigger but the hatchling did their best to hug their mom and dads neck as they brought down their bodies to wrap around their children.
Can we play with Aunty Scarlet? They ask excitedly. Bane chuckles and Ember gives a nod in my direction. Emerald and Coal rush happily over to me. They zoom past me. Coal uses his tail to brush against my arm.
You're it!!! He shouts as he and Emerald take off in different directions.
.....
So yeh, what did you guys think of that? Bet you didn't see that coming did ya. Haha. Anyway hope you enjoyed that chapter!
