Chapter 3
2 weeks later
Kathryn
"What happens if time machines are used too regularly?" I asked
"Mom, that's too easy. Give me a harder one." Iris replied
"No. First answer this."
"Time machines, if used too frequently, can be dangerous. Travelling back and forth between the future and past can cause alternate realities."
"Give another name for alternate realties."
"Alternate realities are also known as parallel universes."
"See you're going to do great Iris!" I assured her.
"Mom, I'm going to fail."
"No you're not, now get some sleep."
I watched Iris run off to bed. She was 15 now. Three years had passed by so quickly. Tomorrow was her final examination and then she was off to college. Oh my. I was absolutely positive though, that Iris could get into whatever college she wanted to. She had studied very hard, and now that hard work was going to pay off.
. . .
Iris
You know that feeling you get before an exam? No? Well, let me tell you how it feels. There's this nervousness at the back of your mind and no matter how much you try to push it away, it will stay there. Butterflies in your stomach, and there's this feeling of restlessness, you want jump up and down but at the same time you feel like you're going to puke. Every second till you get your hands on the question paper, seems like an hour. And even if you're super prepared there is one question on your mind- WHAT IS ON THAT QUESTION PAPER.
Is this just me?
. . .
"OLI!!!" I shouted. I ran and gave him a hug.
He beamed at me. "How was the paper?"
"INCREDIBLE! What about you?"
"Amazing!" I hugged him one more time.
Everyone was making their way to the waiting room. The waiting room was a big room filled with excited students who had applied for various Time travelling colleges. Now that our papers were over, we were getting our results. The air was filled with agitation, everyone discussing their papers in hushed voices.
After what seemed like a million years my name was finally called. I smiled, squeezed Oli's hand and followed a robot into a room. The walls were luminous, giving off a bright white light. I almost had to shield my eyes. There was nothing else in the room except for a red desk that I'm pretty sure was floating an inch off the ground. The whole thing gave a very mysterious, futuristic aura.
Suddenly, out of nowhere a man appeared behind the desk. He was in his forties. He smiled widely. Then I realized that it was just a hologram.
"Hello Iris Malton. I'm Professor Callaghan from the Time Journalists, the college you applied for. You have performed exceptionally well in your exams."
