"Oh, Jack? Ooooh Jack?" Sara's call echoed through the night.
Jack spun around, icy fear pulsing through his veins.
"Hello Jack." A smooth lilting voice slipped out of the shadows.
Jack leapt out of the tree, grabbing his staff. "Pitch."
His cackle bounced around, the illusion of him being everywhere, and yet nowhere at once. Frost grew, spreading across the floor like a spider web.
"Why are you here Pitch? You are incorporeal now."
"Tsk tsk Jack. You never learn. Fear does not need to be real. It just takes a little imagination." Shadows pressed in from all sides, faces taking shape,
"You didn't answer my question. Why are you here?"
Pitch materialized in front of him. "I need something again. You helped me last time, until things went off schedule, so I expect you will help me now."
Jack laughed. "That is a good joke, Pitch. Consider comedy?"
"Oh, I don't need you to help me directly. In a world such as this, all it takes is incentive." Pitch reached towards Jack, but he flew into the air, ice fractals in his wake. He thrust his staff through the air, frost shooting out at Pitch. The strike passed through Pitch, causing no damage.
"Jack, you said it yourself. I am incorporeal. And yet I have found an ally who has made me so much stronger." Pitch sauntered until he was directly under Jack. Black sand rose, glittering, lifting Pitch into the sky. Jack caught a gust of air and tumbled backwards, sending another blast from his staff. "You are just like your friend, Merida. Sometimes you must accept that you can't just 'punch' your way out of a dilemma." Pitch raized his palm to his mouth and blew as if sending Jack a kiss.
"Sweet dreams, Jackson Oliver Frost." Jack twisted and twitched, grasping in the air.
"Pitch! What did you-" His eyes rolled back into his head and he fell like a rock towards the ground. The bogeyman cocked his bead as Jack hit the dirt with a sickening crunch. Pitch cackled and swept the boy into his arms, black handcuffs tying his wrists and ankles together.
"Away we go...."
