"Come on, honey. You need to get up and get ready for school or you're going to be late." I heard my mother say as she interrupted my half sleep.
I groaned and rolled onto my back. Looking up her at her I spoke, "I don't want to go. I'm just going to be made fun of since I'm the only one in my class that doesn't have their other half."
"Oh, honey, someone is out there for you just like everyone else." She moved a strand of hair out of my face, kissed my forehead and walked out so I could get dressed. I did my morning routine of showering, putting on my uniform, and styling my hair to my liking. Soon enough I was done .
I walked down the stairs and my mom looked at me. "Zoey, you're going to be fine." She said.
"I know, but why hasn't he shown up yet?" I mumbled while getting my coat on.
"Hey do you have your necklace on?"
"Yes mom... " I said walking out the house. I wrapped my coat tighter around me when March's cold air blew my hair and skirt around in the wind.
The reason my mother asked if I was wearing my necklace was its how the government keeps control of couples. Everyone has a necklace, but only one person out there has the exact same one as you. You're fingerprint and initials are scanned onto the back of the charm so no one can steal another persons to try switching up "soul mates". May seem confusing, but it's how our government runs.

I got to school early and tried to walk quickly to my locker before I was noticed by her. I wasn't quick enough. Only four away, and I was slammed into the grey wall of lockers. I turned to see my attacker. Rose. My personal bully who made my life hell by teasing me on a eight to three, five days a week basis, just because I haven't found my other half yet.
"Hey, loner," She said pushing me back against the lockers. I looked for help and noticed one of her posse just sipping on milk. "Hey! I'm talking to you. God, you must be so alone that you don't remember how to talk."
"I hope you know you're going to die alone. There is no one for a loser like you. Stop trying to look and just go buy some cats already," said the milk sipper. She opened up a second milk and handed it Rose. I knew immediately what was going to happen.
Soon enough, I was in the girl's bathroom wiping milk off my uniform and out of my hair. Savannah and Sidney walked in not to much later and helped me clean up.
"You know, Zoey, I just noticed how bright green your eyes are." Savannah said trying to cheer me up. After I was close enough to clean and dry, we walked out of the bathroom.
Down the hall a bit stood my bestfriends, Jacob, Dominick, James and his girlfriend Maxx. James saw the sad look in my eyes and came over giving me a hug.
"Isn't Maxx going to spaz out if you're hugging me?" I didn't add the again I was thinking of saying because he didn't know about the last spaz attack she had at me.
He shrugged nonchalantly. "How many times has Rose done this now? Three?"
"It's what I get for being the only one missing my half." I said looking at the ground.
Jacob stepped forward at this point. "You do not deserve abuse for not meeting someone yet. That doesn't even make sense! There's someone out there for you, just like there was for all out of us."
"Rose is right," I snapped, "There isn't anyone out there for me. Don't you think if there was that they would be here with me right now?" I said looking at him. "I am going to die alone." I walked off with small tears in my eyes.
