Carl;
"Okay. I told you my name, what's yours?"
"Juniper." Says the girl, her turquoise eyes flitting to the ground. "But you can call me June if you want."
I look up at her. "No I like Juniper, it's a... cool name."
"Thanks."
"You're welcome. So, where you headed?"
"Right now I'm just headed away from where I was. Did that count as a question?"
"No."
"Ok... how about you? Where are you going?"
I think for a moment. Where was I going? I got so sidetracked by that smoke my train of thought got derailed.
"Um... same as you I guess, away from the horde and where I was."
"Huh." She pulls her bag over her shoulder and digs for something. "Fuck, I forgot my damn food." She says with a worried tone. She stands up, kicks a rock and f-bombs the air.
"We could go on a run... to go get some?"
"Thanks." She says aggravated. "But no thanks Captain, I'll go on my own run. You can be on your way."
"But we just met."
"Exactly."
I'm not going to lie, the fact that she wanted to leave me so early made me sad, or angry.
There was something I saw in her, something I had never seen in Sophia, or anyone...
But what is it?
;
"Where on earth you planning to go?"
"Somewhere. Just not with you."
"Oh come on, you helped me."
"Stop following me Grimes, I have plans. And I need to do them alone."
The girl left three hours ago to go to a place that remains unknown. I've been following her for two and a half. She helped me, I can help her.
I go up to grab her arm and she flinches, "Look."
"Let go of me! I barely know you, I'm not letting you tag along in my life. plus, you're loud, you'll attract every single dead one for miles."
I sigh and roll my one eye at the girls comment. "Look, it's only fair. I want to help out. I could've said the same thing but you insisted on helping me, right? now, let me help you out. I can show you were to go if you still wanted to go on a run."
"No, I need to be alone."
