A Life For A Life

      You laid idly on the ground listening carefully as Sesshomaru had already gotten up and was moving about. You sighed quietly as the first few rays of sunlight began making an appearance and the sky gradually became bluer and bluer. You sat up to find Sesshomaru staring quietly at you.
"Good morning," you said meekly as he turned away. He grunted in response to your greeting.
"We're leaving soon," he said with indifference. You nodded and slowly moved towards Rin to wake her.

 You silently walked beside Sesshomaru as you continued down the vast forest. "Might I ask where we're going today?" you asked casually. Sesshomaru stayed quiet as usual. You glanced back watching Rin and Jaken play one of her games. Sesshomaru made a small clicking noise with his tongue and came to a stop.

"Stay close, it seems like we're getting closer to a group of petty thugs," he said lamely as Jaken suddenly began arguing with Rin about the game rules, but his anger only seemed to entertain Rin even more as she began laughing loudly. Rin suddenly stopped laughing and scrunched her nose up in disgust. "What is that awful smell?" she asked as you covered your nose with your sleeve. "It's probably coming off from those pathetic humans," Jaken complained as Sesshomaru pushed on forward. "Come here Rin," you said holding your hand out towards her. She quickly took it as the large group of what you suggested to be bandits came into view. Laughter rang out from the large group as you came closer and closer. Sesshomaru narrowed his eyes in annoyance as a small bunch of men broke off from the group and approached you all wielding their swords aggressively. "Hand all the women over and this'll be over in no time," One of the men spoke. Rin scrunched up her nose once more as a mixture of sweat and alcohol wafted over. One of the men seemingly took notice and bent over close to Rin and mockingly said,
"You have a problem missy?" the man joked as he reached a hand out towards her, however, he suddenly jerked back, crying out in pain as he held up his bloodied hand and as expected this attracted the attention of the rest of the large group. A tall cocky man suddenly appeared plastering an evil smile on his face as he stepped over his bleeding comrade and approached Sesshomaru. "Do we have a problem?" he asked casually as his smile suddenly disappeared as the bleeding man grabbed onto his shoulder caking his clothing in blood.

"Kill 'em boss, look what he did to me!" he cried out obnoxiously. The man sighed and suddenly unsheathed his sword and swung it down mercilessly onto his comrade who let out a pained gasp. His body crumpled onto the floor as the man turned back and faced Sesshomaru who looked as uninterested as always.

"Seems like you unexpectedly caused one of my men's death, now in exchange for that sin you'll give me one of your own, a life for life," he smiled as his eyes skimmed over Rin's small figure and then onto yours. You frowned in disgust as he pointed at you. "That one will be just fine," he said as he hastily stepped towards you.
"Get out of my way, or I'll kill you all" Sesshomaru said lamely causing the man to laugh cockily and hold up his hands playfully. "You got me, now let me run home to my mama," he sneered as he grabbed onto your arm and pulled you towards him. Sesshomaru stared uninterestedly as he calmly said, "Jaken, deal with this situation." he said with annoyance as Jaken proudly marched out from behind Sesshomaru and planted his staff firmly on the ground positioning it at the larger bunch of the group. "Yes m'lord" he said joyfully as one of the heads began spitting fire at the group sending them into a panicked and frightened state, and after merely minutes the man who held onto you tightly stood horrified as most of his men lay wounded or dead on the ground. You hastily wrenched out of his grasp and stumbled towards Sesshomaru who grabbed onto your arm before you could hit the ground. The man numbly fell to his knees and idly listened to the painful moans that escaped the victims' mouths.

 "Jaken," Sesshomaru said strictly as Jaken placed the staff in the direction of the remaining man and engulfed him in flames. You turned your head sharply not wanting to see the outcome. "Let's go," Sesshomaru said as he pulled you closer to his side and quietly said. "How many times have I told you to stay by my side?" he asked with annoyance. "Twice I think," you joked hoping to relieve the tension. Sesshomaru sighed as he turned his head forward.

 Nightfall came sooner than expected as Sesshomaru finally allowed you all to rest. You quickly took off with Rin to scavenge for firewood or food when Rin finally spoke up. "(F/N) you never answered my question from before," she whined. You laughed lamely hoping to change the subject. "Rin you're a little too young to talk about that stuff," you said weakly as she bent over and began digging out the roots that stuck out from the ground. "I am not!" she cried out as he pulled out a root and placed it beside her and continued her digging. You gasped quietly as Rin stood up covered in mud. "Oh Rin look at you!" you said swatting off the remaining dirt that clung to her kimono. She laughed and gave a small shrug.

 "Take those back to the camp, I'm sure Jaken has a fire going by now maybe you can roast those roots and eat them for tonight," you ordered. "I'm going to look for a river to see if we can wash that kimono of yours. I won't be long, so go" you said as you walked farther into the forest and not long after you heard the small sounds of running river water. You sighed as you finally came upon the large river. 

"Finally," you said tiredly as you bent over and cupped some water into your hands. However, before you could take a sip of the cool water a small snapping noise sounded from the opposite side of the river. You glanced upwards and found yourself staring into the eyes of your father's general. "W-What are you doing here?" you asked startled. He stared silently at you. "You must go, If Sesshomaru finds you here I cannot ensure your life," you warned glancing worriedly behind you.

 "M'lady your father is ill and he requests to see you one last time, he is staying in the neighboring village castle. At least grant him this one wish.." he said holding his hand out towards you. You stared puzzled at him. 'If I disappear Sesshomaru will become worried for me, and I cannot bother him with the task of having to look for me again.. but, I cannot refuse his last request..'

"Alright then.. I'll go," you said taking his hand. You felt suspicious as the man's lip curled upward in an awkward smile.
