Storm

My eyes flutter and I wake up. Yawning and scratching my head, I walk downstairs to the kitchen and make myself a bowl of cereal. I bring it back up to my room and open my computer. I watch YouTube until Sharon, my really nice foster mother, calls me down. “Storm, there are people here to see you,” she calls. My heart sinks. That’ll be people who want to “adopt” me then send me off to some crappy new foster home. I really liked living here, but now I’ll have to go somewhere I’ll hate.  “Coming,” I say and head down. Then I stop in front of a door- the door to the game room. This is the part I’ll miss most about this place. Most girls who say they’re gamers are all, OMG I’m such a gamer ‘cause I play Angry Birds!  I’m actually a gamer. CoD, Halo, Minecraft, you name it, I play it. I have a laptop that I take everywhere, with my other few possessions. It’s like my baby. I open the game room door and sigh. I don’t know how I’ll live without my Xbox. Oh well, my laptop has advanced downloading software and other not crappy crap like that. I reach the living room and see a tall, white-haired lady with a fat, bald short guy acting like a henchman. “Hello, Storm,” the lady says. Her firm, gentle voice sounds almost grandmotherly, but raspier. I hesitate, and then return the greeting. She holds out her hand like she wants me to shake it. I slowly extend mine until we touch. She looks me in the eye and her brown eyes become icy blue, looking straight into my green ones. Then I see a flash of yellow and black light and tumble down into a huge meadow that looks like fairies should live there. I consider looking for some, then a) remember that I’m 16 and b) notice the other girl lying on the grassy ground.
