I wake up as someone gently nudges my shoulder. Ted smiles as I open my eyes to look at him.
"Come on Tess, lets go play tag!" he says excitedly.
"How old are you?" I ask sitting up.
"I'm twelve... Why?" he says curiously.
"Never mind." I say as I stand.
Ted looks at me slightly confused but then smiles again as we head outside.
"I am going to go get Bryan, I'll be right back!" he says as he dashes off.
I shake my head. Bryan is such a twerp. I don't see why Ted likes him so much. I guess he is a bit lonely. I don't blame him though. Having a brat like Kylee for a sister, definitely helps his view of others. Ted comes back with Bryan right behind him.
"I am sorry about yesterday, chick." Bryan says looking at me with his arms crossed.
Ted slightly glares at Bryan, " Her name is Tess."
The edge of Bryan's lips slightly curl into a smile, "No.It's not. It's Tooth fairy."
I smirk, " That's right."
The three of us look at each other and laugh.
"Not it!" Ted calls loudly.
"Not it!' I say following him.
Bryan smiles and says, " I'm it."
Ted and I take off running with Bryan close behind. These boys are pretty fast, but than run like ginormous apes. They break every stick, kick every rock, and kill all flowers they possibly can. Typical boys. Ted goes around one tree to the left as I go right and Bryan choses to go after me cause I am the easier target, apparently. As Ted starts to head back in my direction Bryan closes in on me. When Bryan gets close enough he shoves me hard saying "You're it."
I almost trip, but I manage to catch myself and glare at Bryan, " This is tag..Not football."
Bryan smirks, " Oh sorry I just slipped."
When Ted comes to my side he glares at Bryan, " What the hell man. Not cool."
" Whatever Ted. Don't get your panties in a twist." Bryan says.
Ted glares and shakes his head, " Tess I'll be it."
" Thanks Ted, but I got it fair and square," I say.
Ted nods but obviously isn't happy about it. Ted and Bryan start running and I follow after them. I am definitely going for Bryan. Just to show him exactly who he is messing with. Bryan runs into some bushes and I follow him in. Which was a stupid idea. When I come out of the bushes he slings a small tree limb into my face. I wipe my face with my arm as I continue running. I can hear Bryan snickering as he runs, and it just makes me run faster. I catch up and tackle him. "You're it."
Bryan glares up at me and shoves me off, " Oh it's on cupcake."
"Bring it sugarplum," I say as I get back on my feet.
He comes towards me and punches at my face as I quickly dodge. I throw a punch at his gut and he grabs my wrist twisting it making it to my back is towards him. I wince as he kicks my back and releases my wrist sending me to the ground. I get back up and slug him right in the nose. He grimaces and grabs me tightly by the wrist and head-butts me. I stumble backwards as he lets go and we both rub our heads. Ted comes to us glaring, " You two need to just kiss and make up already."
Bryan smirks and grabs my face and kisses me for a brief second before I knee him hard in his manhood. Bryan lets go and waddles off with tears of pain going down his cheeks. Ted frowns looking at me. "Are you okay?" he asks checking me over.
"Yeah, but your friend won't be if he comes near me again."
Ted sighs and nods, "I am sorry I don't know why he acts like such a jerk around you."
"It's cause he's a guy and can't handle the fact that I am not afraid of him. He thinks he is so tough but really he is just a wittle baby," I say mockingly.
Ted raises his eyebrow at me and shakes his head, "He has had a rough life. His dad abuses his mom. She has been to the emergency room multiple times because his dad put her there. His dad isn't that great to him either. He usually locks him out of the house until he can think of something useful for him to do. Bryan has been told that he is useless everyday of his life, and I think it is starting to effect him."
I frown feeling guilty, " Oh."
" It still doesn't excuse the fact that he hit you," Ted says with his fist slightly clenched.
" I don't know. I mean he has it pretty rough. I am going to apologize. Where does he live?" I ask.
"Follow me,"says Ted walking through the trees.
I follow looking at the ground. Poor Bryan.
" Here we are," says Ted.
I look up and see a torn up old house with barred windows.
"What are you doing here?" Bryan says looking at me.
" I am sorry Bryan," I say as I go over to him giving him a brief hug.
Bryan looks at me and then down, " I am sorry too," he says quietly.
I smile and pat his shoulder. Bryan slightly smiles back at me. I hear a loud crash from inside his house and his smile is gone.
" Let's uh.. Get out of here okay?" he says taking my hand as the three of us head back to Ted's house.
"Lunch!" calls Mrs. Walters from the kitchen window.
"Aw! Come on Mom! Ten more minutes?" asks Ted as Bryan and I let out small laughs.
We are snail racing and haven't even made it to the halfway mark. My snail is most likely dead thanks to Bryan. He accidently stepped on it while we were finding our slimy runners.
" We can finish our race later Teddy," I say.
"Yeah Teddy I'm pretty sure your mom is getting tired of waiting," says Bryan.
" Fine. Come back after lunch Bryan," Ted says in defeat.
"I will. Not like I have anywhere else to be. See you guys later."
