Chapter 3

It took me a while to calm down and stop my tears but I couldn’t stop the hollow feeling were my heart should be. I never got an exclamation for why he ran because I couldn’t find him. I remember having to face our friends and family and tell them there wasn’t going to be a wedding but they could still go and enjoy themselves at the reception. The bills had already been paid so there was no point wasting it. After everyone left the church and I had got my parents to back off; I decided I was going to find Derek.

I went to our apartment but it was completely empty of all his belongings. I tried ringing him but I got no answer.  I spent hours running around the streets looking for him still in my wedding dress. People give me strange looks but that didn’t stop my tears falling as I ended up at the park fountain. I cried in front of Cupid on the saddest day of my life.

I spent a wile crying on the steps up to the fountain of cupid. This day had been a disaster; I began my journey back to the empty apartment. When I got there I changed out of my dress and into some pyjamas bottoms and a large jumper. I curled up on my couch and just sat hugging a cushion tightly to my chest as if it would help gets rid of the pain I was feeling. There was a knock on the apartment door followed by Miley walking in. She always knocked even though she had a key. I looked up at her when she walked in to the apartment. I must have looked terrible because the next thing I was in her arms and she was promising me that everything would be fine one day.

I broke down in her arms asking her why he would just leave me like that and she told me she didn’t know but if she ever found him she would kill him for me. She told me he had made the biggest mistake of his life because he would never find anyone as beautiful or special as me. She showed me a bag that she had brought with her and I smiled if only briefly.

We stayed up late into the night watching horror movies because I couldn’t bear to see anything romantic. Her bag had contained a lot of chocolate brownies and tubs of Ben and Jerry’s ice-cream. Miley stayed with me for months after that helping me get me back together. She never left my side and in the end I felt really bad. I was wasting her time and probably putting a huge strain on her relationship with Keith. After three months I practically forced her out the door so she could go on a proper date with her boyfriend.

 No one knew where Derek had disappeared to that day but no one ever brought it up again. My parents had asked me to come and live with them the day after the wedding but I declined. They continued to tell me that they were there for me. I loved my parents but I had waited so long to leave that house already and I really didn’t want to be treated like a little girl again.

Nine months after the disaster I was back to as normal as well you could be expect to be. My heart still hurt and I still cried when ever I dreamt of him. I had long given up on him coming back and telling me why he had run. I had started to build a new life for myself that excluded relationships with anything male. I got a better job than I ever could have imagined, I was now a CEO of a rising firm that scoped for talented people. We had signed musicians, models, actors and athletes, many of whom were just average people walking on the streets when we found them.

I had other companies begging for my help offering me a high pay check than I could have ever dreamed of. I was loyal thought and I was staying with the company I had basically built up from scratch.  My boss Logan Fitzwilliam was now a close friend of mine and he knew all about my history. He had hired me before I had even finished my interview. Logan was well known around the world for being a leading male actor in many movies.  He had risen to fame literally out of the blue at fifteen years old when a casting director saw him walking down the streets in a baggy tracksuit and thought he would be perfect for a new movie.

The movie had gone bigger than what was ever thought. The movie was based on a romance novel that had sold many thousands of copies. Though no one expected the movie to do to good, the director was widely known ten years previous but had stopped making movies after his wife passed away in a car accident. His only child Anna also starred in the movie but later went on to become a singer.

No one imagined that Logan and Anna would work together again but they did. Everyone thought Logan’s plan would crash. Logan had told the press that this company was going to be big but the people in it would be massive. People laughed and thought that Logan would give up on it and he wasn’t taking it serious. Anna was one of the only people that stood by him and had faith in the company.  When I went for the interview I thought I had no chance of getting it. Anna was sitting in the room with Logan and we had only got a few minutes into the interview when she declared that I was perfect for the job. I was shocked whenever Logan agreed. They told me later on what made me stand out the most was that I wasn’t trying to seduce Logan or in even weirder scenario’s Anna.   

I loved my job and I was glad that my workplace was close to where my parents lived. I had to get a new house though because I needed better security. My new house was much grander than my apartment ever was. It had more than a dozen extra bedrooms so I happily let Miley and her fiancé Keith live with me. I was so happy for them and even though Miley always said to me that she felt like they were gold-digger’s I wouldn’t let her leave. They had their own section of the house and there was often days were we wouldn’t even bump into each other.  Miley was the one who helped me find the house whenever the paparazzi was becoming too much.  Miley loved how she could socialise with are neighbours who were forever on the red carpet.

The paparazzi had come to the conclusion that Logan and I were in a relationship because we always accompanied each other to events. Little did the paparazzi know was that Logan had a secret.
