What is a pun?
A pun is a play on words which usually hinges on a word with more than one meaning of a homonym that changes the meaning of the sentence for humorous or rhetorical effect.

Compound pun.

Difference between a pun and a joke?
The definition of pun is such that it needs necessitates wordplay. A joke may contain this type of wordplay, but there are a great many jokes that do not have any plays on words. Some puns are not humorous and not used for rhetorical, rather than humorous, effect.
What does "No pun intended" mean?
People say this when they unintentionally say something that could be constructed as a pun, but in fact they don't mean to make it light of the situation.
