Prologue

----------------

The nighttime air was cold, unusually cold for this time of year. Wind blew in through the pub door with a chilling effect for anyone inside.

Jamie Macklen didn't mind, temperatures were dropping all across the country, some analysts say the gulf stream was near collapse, if so, winters would become like Moscow's, cold and bitter.

"Oi" Macklen called the bartender over. "How about a pint of guinness"

"Guinness? You must make a small fortune to be spending your money on guinness"

The economy has only gotten worse, the world was facing a depression almost worse than 1929. To be spending your money on something as trivial as beer, especially guinness, was a waste, the price of everything had gone up sadly beer was no exception.

Macklen looked at the pub's tv, the news was on, there was a reporter standing near some sort of wall

"The MOD refuses to give a statement on why the military seems to have set up this exclusion zone, royal navy ships from around the globe are being recalled back to Plymouth, the army as you can see have set up a wall that nearly goes across the entire countryside of Plymouth, and there are reports that the RAF have moved nearly their entire helicopter fleet into the plymouth area. We still don't know the purpose of this exclusion zone however this may be in response to the new american civil war that now encompasses most of the United States"

The bartender changed the channel

"Tis all doom and gloom now day's ain't it?"

He placed the guinness on the table "enjoy, they say guinness is gonna go bankrupt along everything else in the world"

"Well, it's the way the world works now" Macklen replied.

The air was still cold, Macklen cursed to himself, his duffel coat did nothing to keep out the chill in the air.

His phone started ringing, Macklen held it up, glanced at the caller ID, "ID unavaliable"

He tapped the answer button

"Who is this and how the bloody hell did you get my num-"

"Jamie, it's connor, you need to get to Plymouth, now!"

"Connor, mate, what the bloody hell are you on about?"

"Listen, i'm headed to Plymouth now, the so called exclusion zone it's a safe zone, i'll give you clearence just get there"

"Safe zone, safe zone for what?"

"It's the american rebels, they got the launch keys to project archangel, but the guidence systems are broken, it can only fire on us but they don't know that, they're gonna launch and then we're-"

The phone cut

"Connor? Connor you there?"

All the lights on the street cut out

Macklen looked around, all the street lights were dead...but there was still light, he looked around and then he saw it, a bright light in the sky, big and circular like a small sun, then it vanished, and then there was darkness.
