--------------- Chapter Nine-----------

Things slowly got back to normal, or as normal as they could be in the TARDIS. I explored some places with Rose and the Doctor, but spent as much time as possible with mum, doing anything I could for her.

A couple of weeks after they found mum, I was hanging out in the console room, fixing some lights from underneath the console when the Doctor and Rose came laughing into the room.

The Doctor started working the controls, and the TARDIS made its usual dematerialising sound. Once we’d landed, the Doctor and Rose headed for the doors.

“Coming Katelyn?” the Doctor called over his shoulder.

“Na I’m just gonna stay here.” I answered, crawling out from under the console.

“Oh come on Katelyn.” The Doctor turned to face me with that intriguing look on his face. “Mystery world out there. Never been there before. You should come discover it with us.”

“Thanks Doctor, but I’d prefer to stay here with mum.” I said politely.

“Oh, alright.” The Doctor replied, pulling the doors open and exiting with Rose.

Suddenly the TARDIS made a rumbling sound, like it was suffering indigestion. I patted the console concernedly.

“What’s wrong with you?” I asked it. Funnily enough the TARDIS didn’t answer. I went to the scanner and checked the fault locator to see what was wrong. It wasn’t anything to do with the machine; it must’ve been something outside…

I was about to head over to the doors and check what was outside when the TARDIS lurched and fell. I shouted as I fell head over heels, clutching the console for support. It fell and fell for a really long time until it hit the ground with a crash. I lifted my head off the ground, confused. What happened? I looked at the scanner again. No atmosphere outside, we were miles underground. Hundreds of miles!

“Oh no!” I whispered. What had happened to the Doctor and Rose?

I quickly got up, deciding that I’d just fly the TARDIS back up and go get them. I tried to start up the controls but they resisted. I must have been messing with the time stream or something. I thought back to the Doctor Who I’d watched while I’d been kidnapped. There had been an episode where the TARDIS fell down miles and miles; the Impossible Planet/the Satan Pit. But that meant they wouldn’t be back for hours! What was I to do?

I decided to go check on mum, just in case she’d been injured by the fall. Once I’d found my way to the stasis room I found that she was alright but some stuff had fallen off the walls. I fixed that up then stayed with mum a while, trying to figure out what to do. Eventually I headed back to the console room to check the scanner. It detected life forms a long way above us and a drilling project nearby. It also detected the evil force that was holding the planet in orbit around a black hole. There was nothing I could do but wait for when the Doctor finds the TARDIS. That was when I realised that the TARDIS was nowhere near where the force was. But how could he find the TARDIS if it wasn’t in the right place? This must have been my fault. I put my head into my hands. Because I was in the TARDIS when it fell, it didn’t land in the right place. Because of me, the Doctor and Rose would both die, and I couldn’t do anything about it. I tried flying the TARDIS again half-heartedly but it still wouldn’t let me. I sat down on the chair next to the console. What was I going to do?

I sat there for what felt like hours, watching the scanner. The blobs that were the Doctor, Rose and the other people up there moved about and one by one some of the blobs disappeared. There were some unidentified life forms up there as well, which I assumed were the Ood. Eventually the two blobs that were the Doctor and Ida went down under the base and the blobs up top fought their way through the Ood to the rocket. I watched the rocket leave and the Doctors blob descend into the pit, and find the monster. I was waiting for the inevitable destruction of the planet when suddenly the console glowed to life. I laughed in relief, then jumped up and started working the controls. I knew exactly what to do. As the Doctor broke the force holding the planet in orbit I landed the TARDIS right near him. I watched the scanner as he stumbled away from the dying monster and ran into the TARDIS. He laughed, wrenching the door open.

“Katelyn!” he pulled me into a hug when he saw me. “You will not believe the day I’m having.”

“Doctor! Remember the black hole?” I reminded him quickly.

“Oh yes!” he said, running over to the controls and flying first to Ida and second to save the rocket Rose was on. I looked after Ida for him, then disappeared into the hallways when she started to wake up, so that she wouldn’t know I was there.

I waited in the hallways until the TARDIS was in flight again. Then I went back out and joined the Doctor and Rose. They both looked shaken but relieved to be safe again.

“Hi guys.” I said. “You two ok?”

They both grinned at me.

“Fine.” They replied together.

“I don’t entirely understand what happened though.” Rose added.

“What do you mean?” I asked her.

“Well first off,” she started. “Why did the planet start to fall into the black hole?”

“Oh that was me.” The Doctor said, looking guilty. “The force holding the planet in orbit was some form of the devil, and I had to destroy it. But when I did that the planet had to fall.”

“Oh.” Rose said, and then turned to me. “How come you didn’t bring the TARDIS up to get us?”

“Hey, I did try!” I told her indignantly. “But the controls wouldn’t work for me, probably because this was a fixed point in time. The TARDIS only let me fly it to save the Doctor from the black hole.”

“Oh.” Rose repeated. “You know, I think this is the craziest thing we’ve done so far.” She added, grinning.

The Doctor grinned too, but a little bit sadly. “I really hope we don’t have to do something like that again.”

The two exchanged a sad look and I remembered that they’d almost lost each other during this adventure. I decided to excuse myself, to give them some time to themselves. I checked in on my mum, still sleeping soundly. I hoped she’d wake up soon. I was missing her so much. I made sure the stasis machine was at the right levels and then retreated to my room. I worked on my control panels for a while, but I was tired out of my mind and so ended up going to bed quite soon. I only had to lie there for a moment before I fell asleep.
