Chapter 15: Bitter Sweet
Amy:
"But mommy!" I pouted, squeezing Teddy against my small chest as I watched the greenish grass beneath me.
"Sweetie, c'mon." I could feel her soft hand stroking my locks as I shook my head furiously,"Daddy won't be happy if we stayed any longer."
"But Daddy is never happy..." I said quietly. Her hand immediately stopped stroking my locks and became still against my head. I gulped, stealing a glance at her face and noticing how it turned from this cheery, loving face to this neutral, emotionless state.
I felt like hitting myself with Teddy for saying this to her, I knew Mommy didn't like it when I said bad things about Daddy, she would always look destined afterwards and won't look at me in the eye for at least a day or two. Yet, my mouth seemed to always speak on it's own.
"I'm sowy..." My voice sounded muffled and didn't make sense since I started chewing on one of Teddy's ears. One of my weird habits when I felt guilty was to chew on Teddy. Poor Teddy, he's going to be mad at me too. I think I should make him tea when I get back, Teddy loves tea. He will forgive me if I made him his favourite tea with a chocolate chip cookie on the side.
At least Teddy forgives me easily.
Mommy patted my head slowly as I watched her from the corner of my eye briefly smiling to the sky. I was so shocked at her surprisingly loving action after my words that my body remained still, my eyes watching her carefully as if waiting for her to burst or something.
"Do you really want to stay for a little while?" she whispered, eyes returning to me with a faint glint beneath them, once again she took my by surprise that I nodded so fast my neck hurt badly afterwards.
She was in a good mood today, a very good mood.
Mommy laughed before resting her back against the soft grass, pulling me with her as we cuddled and watched the stars glowing the dark sky. It was a calm and peaceful night, the only sound coming from the trees as the wind brushed the leaves. Out of the blue, Mommy pointed her index to a star that glowed much more than the rest and leaned her lips to my forehead, "Do you see this star?" She whispered.
"Aha." I whispered happily in return while a cold breeze hit my small body. I hugged her and Teddy closer to me, hoping that my body would get warmer in Mommy's arms while I watched the star she pointed at, listening to her as she chuckled softly.
"This is my favourite star ever since I was your age..." She whispered once more, "She would always give me hope...she never left me alone..." Drops of water trailed down my forehead while she stroked my cheek, "When I was sad or crying...she was there...she made me feel better..."
"She was your bes' f'iend, Mommy?" I wondered, watching her tear soaked face as she smiled once more.
"Yeah..." She chuckled softly, "...you could say that."
Suddenly, she turned her body towards me and rested her elbow against the grass and her head fell on her hand. Her beautiful brown locks fell loosely over her face, almost covering her piercing blue eyes as she gave me the smile that she always gave me when she was about to say something that might make me jump from happiness.
