Zane is personally my favourite character in diaries, mostly because of how interesting I find him.
I think that Zane could be a descendant of Shad (if you are not caught up or don't know about Shad he was or could still be the shadow Lord.). Which is one of the reasons I believe he is corrupt.
I think that Zane may have been passed on darkness because he is a blood relative of Shad, therefore he wouldn't have been able to control his hatred for aphmau because of Shads hatred for Lady Irene and the other Devines.
It is also my suspicion that he want born with the darkness, he may have inherited it when he was of a certain age. I also believe that this is the reason he wasn't very active in the story before they went to the dimension of Irene because he was trying to control his powers and his new form, kind of like aphmau after she absorbed the relic.
I also believe that Zane was not able to control when he killed all of Aaron's village. I think this could mean that maybe Aaron is a bigger part then you think ( hint for future ☺️).
