Danny's POV
I woke up to my parents causing an annoying amount of noise. I rubbed my eyes and let out a yawn and saw that Jazz was standing in front of me, grinning.
"Morning Danny! Excited for the next day of summer vacation?"
I blinked slowly. "Uh, I guess. Wait, why?"
"Because mom and dad found a town full of the mysterious and weird, and a few ghosts, and apparently we're going there tomorrow. So enjoy your day while you can."
I groaned. "Just let me actually wake up first. I'll get up when I'm ready or when Sam and Tuck call."
Jazz frowned. "Fine, but don't complain to me about being bored tomorrow. And in case your friends are curious, the town's name is Gravity Falls. It's in Oregon."
With that, she walked out of my room.
I grunted and lay back down.
"Just... Just a couple more minutes..." I mumbled to myself.
About two hours later, I woke up with a warm, soft thing in my hand and my entire body in pain.
"Oww...!" I sat up and almost passed out again immediately. I looked at my limp hand and then up at my best friend, Sam.
"Uh, why are you holding my hand?" I raised an eyebrow. Sam looked away and let go, blushing.
"We were trying to wake you up and nothing worked, so I put on the Spectre Deflector - which malfunctioned, by the way - and touched your hand to give you a quick shock. But you kind of... Grabbed my hand and wouldn't let go. Which is why your hair looks really stupid and I'm assuming you're in a lot of pain." Sam snickered.
"Wait, what? What did you do to my hair?"
I was tapped on the shoulder and when I turned around, my other best friend, Tucker, held up a mirror for me.
"... Seriously?" I glared at nothing in particular. My hair was sticking up in random spiky patterns. "I thought this only happened in cartoons!"
Sam was still trying not to laugh at me. "So, I think I'll turn your own question right back at you. Why did YOU grab MY hand?"
I thought for a minute. "I don't know. I mean, my parents have told me that I'm really clingy in my sleep, so-"
"That's because you are, sweetie! You used to fall asleep next to us on the couch and cling onto an arm or leg then refuse to let go!" Mom giggled.
My friends snickered.
I facepalmed at my mom's horrible timing. Then again, it's probably just a mother thing.
"That explains why you two were hugging in your sleep at the zoo." Sam smirked.
"Yeah, can we please just forget that happened? Please?" Tucker begged.
"Never gonna happen. Well, not while I have photographic evidence, anyway."
"Aww, come on! I'll be your best friend!"
"Tucker, you are my best friend."
"Really?"
"Well, second best. Danny's the first."
"Danny's my first best friend!"..
I tried not to laugh. "Uh, guys? Right here."
Tucker and Sam continued glaring at each other.
"Danny, who's your best friend here? If we were both in a burning building, who would you save?" Tucker demanded.
"Come on guys, I care about you both equally." I chuckled. "I just spend more time with Tucker playing video games since Sam is so good at most ones we play that she's too far ahead. And I spend time with both of you at school, the movies-" I remembered the time Desiree granted Sam's not-literal wish that we'd never met, and what occurred between us during that time. I cleared my throat. "A-anyway, I spend time with Sam doing... Uh... Doing...? What do we do?"
Sam shrugged.
"Other than you lovebirds making out when you're being hunted down or when your dad is about to find you in the basement, where you shouldn't be, I don't really know either!" Tucker snickered.
"We're not lovebirds!" Sam and I shouted.
My entire face felt like I had a fever and my cheeks felt like they were on fire. I glanced at Sam, seeing that her face was red too.
"Uh, I- we- we didn't-" I stuttered.
"And we never made out! It's called a Fake Out Make Out, but there's no making out! It was just a kiss!" Sam's face was getting redder by the second.
"You mean they were just kisses?" Tucker grinned.
"Can we just stop talking about it?!" Sam took a deep breath. "Look, I was going to invite you guys over to my place to watch movies, but you're being a jerk-"
She pointed at Tucker.
"-and if I was watching movies alone with you-"
She pointed at me.
"-it would make it more awkward. So thanks to Tucker, we can't watch the latest instalment of that movie series you guys like. You know the one with that robot guy whose soul was bound to his suit?"
My eyes widened. "Wait, what?! But the latest movie isn't even in cinemas for another week!"
Sam raised an eyebrow. "Remember how my family is secretly filthy rich? My uncle has connections. But you guys aren't coming anyway, so what does it matter?" Sam tried to turn around and walk out, but Tucker and I ran in front of her and blocked the exit.
"Please please please let us come! I'm sorry for saying all that stuff, I'm begging you! I need to see that movie! You can call me a jerk all you want, just please please please let us see the movie!" Tucker begged.
Sam smiled and rolled her eyes. "Alright, but you're still a jerk."
"Yes!" Tucker yelled triumphantly, pushing me out of the way and running downstairs.
"Well someone's excited." Sam chuckled, helping me up.
"Yeah, clearly he's still a jerk if he can't be bothered helping his friYOW!" I yelped, almost falling over again.
Sam let go of my hand and gasped. "Sorry Danny! I forgot to take off the stupid ghost belt!" She pulled it off and chucked it over her head. "So... Are you feeling okay? I mean, I did electrocute you... Twice." She looked down sheepishly.
"Apart from my hair looking really stupid, I'm mostly fine." I said, ruffling my hair.
We ran down to Tucker, who was waiting at the door. He was about to say something, then remembered what Sam had said.
"Mom! Dad! We're going over to Sam's place to watch a movie!" I called out.
"Sweetie, you can watch as many movies as you want! You can even stay over if everyone else's parents are okay with it!" Mom replied.
"Uh, alright..." I muttered.
"Just don't make your girlfriend's parents get another restraining order!" Dad shouted.
"Dad! We're not- she's not my-"
"Just forget it, Danny." Sam sighed. "Obviously everyone in this town is too thick-headed to get the message."
I sighed and nodded.
