Chapter 26
Callum
I could hear them arguing. I wanted so much to tell them not to worry but I couldn't open my eyes. I couldn't even move. I couldn't even squeeze Liv's hand that was interlock with mine.
Something didn't feel right. I felt so weak and groggy. A feeling I wasn't use to.
It makes sense, doesn't it?
The tired wolf inside of me stirred a little at the sound of my mate's voice.
He hates you, doesn't he?
He should have no right to hate us. His father is the one that killed our parents. Not the other way round my youngest brother growled
He does have a right to hate us the Lonely Brother added.
Oh, please tell us my middle brother snapped.
I wanted to step in and stop their arguing before it erupted into something that neither of them could control.
It doesn't matter why my heart warmed again at the sound of my mate's voice, stopping my brothers for me.
But he's already made threats to this family. He sent that wolf to drown me, he did this to Callum. What else is he capable of?
I don't even want to know my sister said quickly, reminding me so much of my late mother.
The house is always protected my middle brother stated.
That's what Ma and Pa thought my youngest brother snapped.
There was silence.
My wolf felt alone.
I felt empty.
Let's just focus on Callum my mate quickly said
Olivia, if you're in danger than Callum won't want savin' the Lonely Brother said.
Why do people keep saying that? I don't care about myself!
My wolf moved so fast inside of me that it hurt. I couldn't help but wince.
When it comes to saving my life and Callum then –
Is it just me or did he just wince? My youngest brother asked.
Silence consumed them again as they waited for something to happen.
Little Liv, say somethin' again.
Like what?
Talk about hurtin' yourself my middle brother told her.
Ahh, I want to kill myself
My wolf fought against me again, trying to rip through a barrier.
Oh my god, Callum. Callum can you hear me?
I wanted to answer her. My wolf wanted me to. I felt her squeeze my hand and my wolf gave me enough strength to squeeze back.
He's squeezing my hand. He's squeezing my hand!
Allie go get Doctor Glen Archie ordered.
My eyes started to open to a blurry image.
"Cal, can you hear me?" Graham asked.
I felt their presence so close to me, making me stronger.
"Callum?"
The voice of Liv caught my attention. The worry in her voice made my wolf frantic to calm her.
"Liv," I croaked so quiet that I wasn't even sure that I had even said it.
"I'm here Callum. We all are," she told me, gripping my hand even harder.
"Callum? How you feelin'?" my eyes darted around the room at a different voice from my siblings and Liv. It was Doctor Glen.
"I'm just goin' to give you an injection, its goin' to make you feel a little bit better."
I felt a sting at my upper arm and slowly I started to feel like my normal self. I felt strong and awake.
The sudden need to stand came to me but I was quickly pushed down.
"Don't get up, save your strength," Archie told me.
I nodded welcoming the mattress.
"Liv," I almost whispered tugging at her arm.
"I'm here, Callum. I'm not going anywhere."
I nodded, believing her.
"Thank you," I told her, trying to sallow the knife that was cutting my throat.
She giggled, "That's okay."
"Now, Callum I'm going to take some blood," Doctor Glen told me, his voice louder than normal.
I nodded understanding.
Looking at Liv, instead of the needle, I asked, "What happened?"
"You fainted and started coughing up blood. The wolfsbane is still in your system."
I groaned, wanting to hit something. Of course it bloody was.
"Okay, all done," Doctor Glen said as if I was a child, "give me an hour and I'll have the results weather or not your wolfsbane free."
I nodded, "thanks Doc."
He smiled at me then left the room with a blood filled needle.
"Oh my god, that was so gross," Allie groaned bringing my attention back to the room.
Everyone was here.
"Your twenty-one, a werewolf that loves violence and you still hate blood," Graham mocked her, bringing a smile to my face.
She scoffed, "you're afraid of water."
"I am not."
"Are too. When we go down to the river, you don't even put your feet in."
"You can blame them for that," Graham argued pointing to Malcolm and Archie.
"You wanted to learn how to swim," Archie stated, with a shrugged and a growing smirk.
"Throwin' me in the river is not teachin' me how to swim," Graham snapped.
"We got you out before you drowned," Malcolm argued.
"Oh my God, I remember that," Allie jumped in, "Pa and Ma were so angry."
"Are you kiddin' me? They were more than angry. All our toys were taken away, we weren't allowed out of the house for a week and we had to follow Ma around for two," Archie explained.
At the memory, I started to chuckle.
"You were no help either," Archie snapped.
Liv frowned and turned to me, "why?"
Through my chuckles and dying throat, I said, "guess who got the toys."
"Oh my god," she giggled.
"I was told by Pa to purposely play with the toys in front of them. Best order ever."
"I hope you're not going to do that with our children."
When we realized what Liv had just said, everyone went quiet. She dropped her head and colour quickly came to her cheeks. The single thought was enough to send my wolf into a frenzy. I had always wanted children. It was part of the deal of being Alpha King. But for Liv to have them, my mate, it suddenly became the dream I never knew I wanted.
Taking her chin and lifting it up to meet my eyes, I croaked, "of course."
A smile spread across her lips, as Allie quickly pushed everyone out of the room.
"Out, out. They're havin' a moment. Out!"
We chuckled at their arguing but they left us anyway.
Once they were gone, I asked, "I didn't know you wanted children."
She shrugged, "it was always part of the plan."
"Which plan?"
She shrugged again, "find someone, fall in love, get married, have kids. Isn't that everybody's plan."
"It is," I agreed, bowing my head, "but having werewolf children, isn't?"
Now she bowed her head and bit her lip forgetting that little piece of information.
"So, our children will defiantly be werewolves?"
I nodded, "not born, but eventually they will shift."
"How old were you when you first shift?"
I swallowed at the memory.
"Seven maybe."
"What happened?" She asked, taking my hand.
I coughed, cleaning my throat, "like everyone, I had a fever. I went to bed early without tellin' anyone and shifted through the night. Somehow I got out and -."
"Did you kill anyone?" She asked worry dripping from words.
I shook my head, "but I killed about half a flock of sheep, eight chickens from the kitchen court yard, probably every bird I saw."
"How old were you, again?"
"Seven," I repeated.
"Wow. You were a strong wolf cub."
I nodded, swallowing at the thought. I could still taste the blood hours after I had shifted back.
I sighed, getting to the point, "so if that's a deal breaker, you better speak now -."
"And what, get on a plane for America. I thought the last two days showed you that I was made of stronger stuff than that."
I shrugged, trying to stand my ground to a losing battle.
"Callum, I want your children."
I couldn't help but chuckle at her bluntness.
"Do you now?" I teased her.
"Yes, I do. And I'm not saying that I want them now or a whole...pack of them, for a better word," I couldn't help but chuckle, "But I want them and I want them with you."
I smiled, filled with happiness at her declaration. Wrapping my arm around her, I pulled her in close and kissed the top of her head.
"How many are we goin' to have?" I asked wanting to stay on the topic.
"We, it might be half yours but I'm pretty sure, I'm going to be carrying the dam thing for nine months."
I chuckled, "Okay, how many are you goin' to have?"
"One or two," she answered.
"One or two, no way. More."
"More?" she groaned sitting up on her elbows to see if I was lying.
I shrugged, "I want a big family."
"Two kids is a big family where I come from," she argued.
"I don't care at least five."
"At. Least. Five. At least five. At least and five, can't go in the same sentence."
"Yes it can. What's wrong with five kids?" I asked.
"One, I don't think it's humanly possible."
I frowned, "My Ma had five kids."
"Your Ma must have been an amazing person. But when I think five kids, I think five pregnancies and five, you know, giving birth."
I tilted my head, "Giving birth isn't that bad."
Her jaw dropped, "You take that back."
"What, it can't be. Why do women keep havin' children if it is?" I asked.
"Maybe their husbands forced them to have five kids."
"Mmm, maybe."
She giggled and started to draw circles in the palm of my hand.
"Anyway, we don't have to decide right now," she quickly said.
"You say that only because you're goin' to lose."
Her eyes widened, "I'm going to lose."
I nodded.
"And how the hell am I going to lose."
I shrugged, "I have my ways."
"Are you saying that you're going to get me pregnant?"
My shrugged was her answer.
I thought she would hit me but instead a cheeky smile spread across her face.
"When your better –,"
"– I am better."
"– I'm going to show you how much the idea of you getting me pregnant means to me."
I shrugged, not hating the idea.
"Why don't you show me now?"
"Because two hours ago you were coughing up blood."
I shrugged again, "I'm a werewolf, I heal. Now show me."
She shook her head and broke my heart.
"Show me," I growled shifting even closer to her.
Trying to convince her, I locked my lips to hers, wrapping my tongue around hers.
"You – should – get – some – rest."
I groaned, pulling back.
"Really? Don't you want me?" I asked, trying to guilt trip her.
She tilted her head, seeing what I was trying to do.
"I mean it Callum. That's twice in two days I almost lost you. And if I have to lose you one more time then –,"
"Don't say it," I stopped her, pressing my finger to her lips.
She nodded, "Get some sleep."
I nodded and buried myself under the covers with Liv following me. I pulled her close to me feeling comfort from that.
I wanted to plan a future with her but she was right. Twice out of two days I almost lost her. What will happen after the next two days?
