In which Skye doesn't get her caffeine fix but instead a pep talk from mother.
After the dinner from hell was over I headed to Grinds for my much needed caffeine fix. I waited in the long line. Unfortunately Laini wasn't here to save me from the lines this time.
I pulled out my phone to pass the time. My twitter feed was blowing up on the latest gossip from back home. I followed most of the people I use to compete with and apparently Cindy Lancast had taken home a crown that had people outraged.
That was the thing about pageants when most people lost they got mad. This made Twitter the worst weapon, because other constants could speak their opinion about the winner. There were many times I won and checked my Twitter feed, only to be called out for something. My makeup, looks, dress, it was exhausting.
I decided to send a tweet to Cindy, considering I was quite close with her before I left. I'm sure she was more than happy to get rid of her biggest competition.
Skye Taylor @AimfortheSkye
Congrats to one of the bests @CindyLancast for taking home the crown and qualifying for Miss America. #Perf #BestOfLuckI would probably start a war via Twitter for that tweet considering I was friends with a couple of girls who lost to her. But you had to keep your competition and enemy's closer right?
My phone was knocked out of my hands when someone came rushing in front of me. "Are you freaking kidding me!" I screamed looking at my iphone on the floor. I knelt down and prayed the screen wasn't cracked. I turned it over slowly to see the huge mess that was now my phone. It wouldn't even turn on.
"I'm so sorry." A girls voice spoke up, one that was etched into my brain.
"Are you kidding me, my phone is broken! Did you want to fix it with your sorry?" I held up my phone looking at Cassie.
"You should really be more careful." She shrugged her shoulders as she stood in front of me in line. She had cut me and my need for caffeine was growing. Not to mention the fact that she had just broken my very expensive phone, I think I was becoming somewhat delusional.
I pulled her out of line and into the courtyard. "What the hell is wrong with you!" She pulled her arm back forcing me to let go.
"Why do you hate me so much?" I yelled causing some people to look our way.
"You know exactly why." She crossed her arms.
"If this is about Liam, I said I'm sorry a thousand times. You've seriously gone crazy." I said crossing my arms.
"You knew how much I liked him." She looked toward the fountain and away from me.
"You're right I did and nothing even happened. You jumped to conclusions and you ruined whatever friendship we had." I ran my hand through my hair. This was too much, couldn't she just trust me?
"So you're telling me you aren't dating him right now?" Hope crossed her eyes and I wish I wasn't pretend dating him. I knew that any chance of us becoming friends again had disappeared.
"Wrong answer." She walked away leaving me standing by the fountain with a cracked phone and no coffee.
******
"I hate your ex." I threw my phone on the kitchen table where Niall, Liam and Zayn were sitting.
"How did you break your phone?" Liam raised his eyebrow at me.
"Don't look at me like that. Cassie was the one who 'accidently' broke it by cutting me in line at Grinds and hitting my phone out of my hand." I shook my head. Maybe I could get Laini to talk to her. They were in the same faculty after all.
"The perks of dating Liam Payne keep growing." Niall laughed and clapped his hands. I narrowed my eyes hard at him. Why did I ever like this boy?
"Are you going to use that phone?" Zayn spoke through bites.
"No, go ahead and knock yourself out." I threw it towards Zayn. His eyes lit up, I could only imagine he was going to use it for some kind of art project.
"You've got to do something about this Skye, I have to go work on an assignment are you coming with love?" Liam said to me gathering his stuff and heading towards the stairs.
"No I think I'm going to hang back." Maybe Laini would come over and discuss options on how I was going to fix this. Liam gave me a quick nod and went upstairs to finish his assignment.
There was a knock at the door and I was hoping that Laini had somehow read my mind. After the second knock I ran to the door, it was obvious Niall and Zayn were not interested in the door. I quickly opened the door but it was Lainis red hair I seen, but Blondies instead.
"Oh I'm sorry I didn't know the boys had company." Blondie said tilting her head confused. I let out a small chuckle. I lived here she was the company.
"I actually live here." I said crossing my arms. Just when I was about to ask twenty one questions about her and Niall's relationship, Niall came behind me and opened the door fuller so Blondie could come in.
"Thanks." She said to Niall. He looked at me as if to say get out of here. So I did just that.
I quickly grabbed my sweater and headed outside. I didn't want to stay there if she was there. I heard Blondie mention my name as I left but I ignored her. She wasn't worth the time.
After I walked around Campus for a while I decided to give my mother a call. It was easier than I thought to find a payphone, but I regretted the call after she started talking about pageants.
"Amelia just took first place in her last three competitions." My mother gloated about my sister. I rolled my eyes.
"Anyway, when are you coming home? I have to get planning for when you decide to compete again." My stomach turned.
"Mom I'm not coming home anytime soon, school just started so you can stop planning." There was a long pause.
"Are you sure school is your thing?" She said sceptically.
"I'm positive." I said lying because I wasn't sure if it was or not but I knew pageants weren't.
"Ok well, I am coming to visit this weekend then." She said hanging up without hearing my protests. How was I going to tell her I lived with 5 other guys? I also noticed that she didn't say I love you either. My mom only said I love you when I won something and it looked like this time I didn't earn one.
