                        Caroline's POV
                 (Girl from the dungeon)

The door banged open and light flooded in, their feet pounded against the damp concrete and I wait to see what they need.

They had been coming down more often since the alpha's girl was captured and brought here, but today was different, I could sense it.

I hear the jangling of keys as they open my door, the metal screeching.

"Get up," one snaps.

I obey, not wanting any trouble.

I'm brought up the stairs and outside, the fresh air causing me to feel immensely better.

I'm drug into a house, into an office, then thrown on the ground. I look up to see a man, probably in his forties, and he smiles at me.

"Hello, Caroline," he greets.

I don't respond.

He looks to the men behind me, "get her food and drink, she'll need her strength."

The guards leave and the man's  eyes return to me, "you see, I need you for something special."

I narrow my eyes at him but he continues, "I need you to kill someone, an alpha."

I growl, "and get myself killed?"

He smiles, "no, you'll weaken him first, then kill him. All you have to do is kill his mate."

The girl? The one in the dungeon? Is this what all of this is all about?

"Why? Why me?" I question.

"Because, no one will suspect you. Get close to her, I'm going to give you time. Then, when she trusts you the most, kill her," he states.

The men return, bringing food and water in. They help me onto a couch and set the tray in front of me.

"What's in it for me?" I ask.

"Freedom, eternal protection for your family, financially and physically," He answers.

"I don't-"

"She forgot about you, Caroline. She left you here to be with her mate. It's been what, a month? Two? More?" He says. "She's happy while you're stuck in a moldy dungeon grateful for crumbs, let alone a meal. She deserves it."

I look down at the tray in front of me, "fine, I'll do it."

"Good," he replies as I bite into my food.

Lena's POV

There was a long silence after what Roman had told me.

My father is alive.

He's the leader of the rogue clan.

He wants to take Roman's pack from him.

He wants to take me away from my mate.

"Are you sure?" I ask finally, not wanting to believe him.

Regret is evident in his eyes as he nods, "yes, we're sure. Trust me, Lena, I checked, double checked, then checked again. I didn't want to believe it for myself, I didn't want to put you through that. But facts are facts. I'm sorry."

I let out a shaky breath, "what're we going to do?"

"I have a meeting with Miles, we're talking about it then," he tells me. "You're safety is being put first, above everything else, including my pack."

"Roman-"

"Lena, don't argue with me on this," he interrupts. "I know what I'm doing, I know what I want."

I frown in disagreement, "when's the meeting, I want to attend."

He closes his eyes, sighing, "I don't think-"

"No, if I'm being spoken about I want to know what's going on. I hate being in the dark about everything," I respond stubbornly.

He nods, giving in, "alright. It's at five. We can spend time together until then."

I smile, "what are we going to do?"

"I just want to spend time with you, I don't care what we do," he answers.

"We should watch a movie," I state.

He nods, "alright, let's go. We can get comfortable, make some popcorn and snuggle."

I laugh, "okay, Mr. Teddy Bear."

His arm is tight around my shoulders as we walk, the sounds of the nature around us as our background noise. It was peaceful.

We reach the house once again and head up to our room.

Climbing on the bed, Roman turns on a movie for us to watch and then he crawls up next to me. I lie my head on his chest, his arm around me, as we watch the movie silently.

It was nice, we haven't had much time to spend together, and this was enjoyable.

After a while, he sighs, "alright, the meeting should be starting soon. Are you sure you want to come?"

I nod, sitting up, "yes, I'm sure. I need to know what's going on. I want to protect our pack and finish this stupid war just as much as you do."

He smiles a little at me, "I love you."

I roll my eyes, smiling.

"Don't roll your eyes at me when I tell you how I feel," he states, grabbing my waist and pulling me back down on the bed.

"Or what, Alpha?" I tease.

He starts tickling me, and I laugh until I can hardly breath.

"Okay, okay, I'm sorry," I give.

He stops, smiling broadly before leaning down and pressing a kiss to my lips, "you're forgiven."

I shove him away, still laughing a little, then get off the bed, "we have a meeting to attend."
