"Amelia Crest. Who woulda thought, out of all people we could run into during a zombie apocalypse, it'd be you." Connor said as a grin stretched across his face.

"Connor Fellis." I whispered out, still surprised out of my mind.

His eyes twinkled a bit,"D'aww you remembered my name, did you?" he joked clearly amused at my reaction to seeing him.

Before I could stop it, I broke into a wide smile.

"I can't believe you're here!" I yelped, throwing my arms around his neck.

"Whoa!" he laughed as he hugged me back,"I missed you kid." he whispered in my ear, making me shiver lightly.

I pulled away staring into his calm blue eyes. That grin on his face was still there and he realized that, clearing his throat and becoming serious as he spoke.

"Max..Molly...this is Amelia." Connor introduced us.

I peeked into the back seat and a head of red hair shone in my face.

"I'm Molly!" she practically sang at me, I saw Scott wince in my peripheral vision.

"Umm hi Molly." I said awkwardly, I was confused as to how she was so happy?

I faced the other guest. It was a brunette, male version of Molly.

"Oh." I murmured and deduced,"You're twins."

Max shrugged and leaned against the door, ignoring the rest of us. What the hell? I thought and looked at Connor questioningly. He shook his head slightly, indicating it wasn't something to be talking about right now. Mollys' face contorted in sorrow as she sat at her brothers side wordlessly. Demi looked at Jen who was glancing at everyone carefully.

I gave them both reassuring smiles.

"Oh yea! Connor this is Demi and Jen. And that is Scott." I said pointing all three off one at a time.

He smiled politely at all of them and turned his attention back to me,"How've you been Ames?"

"I've been good Connie. What about you?" I said, smiling despite the whole situation.

"Oh you know, just been busy fighting off ravenous zombies lately." he replied as another heart stopping grin appeared on his face.

My silly heart actually stuttered. This was my childhood friend. The friend that I haven't seen in three years. My parents, Luke, and I had moved away from Dallas because of my Dad's job. But it felt good seeing him again. He grew up..a lot. My side was pressed against his hard abdomen and chest.

I could only imagine what lied under that shirt of his. His dirty blonde hair was sticking up every which way and he had a dirt smudge on his forehead. WIthout realizing, my thumb flew up and rubbed the smudge away gently. He eyed me curiously and gave me a small smile. A throat cleared next to us and we looked over at Scott who nodded up the road. A half burnt out motel sign flickered in the distance.

I felt Connors chest deflate as a breathy sigh left his lips.

"What I wouldn't give for a hot shower."

Demi and Jen murmured agreements from the back and Molly muttered something about food. As if on que my stomach growled loudly. A blush flamed crimson on my cheeks as Connor laughed under me.

"Hungry Amy? Me too." I glanced at Scott and saw his small smile barely hanging onto his lips.

"So it's settled? If the coast is clear we'll stop and rest here?" Molly asked exicitedly and Scott nodded.

He gripped the gun and laid it on the dash quietly. Connors hand brushed against my hip, that had exposed itself during all the chaos. A shiver skittered up my spine and his eyes met mine.

They twinkled with mischief as he asked,"Cold?"

I nodded curtly before looking away as the blush made it's way back up my face.

We pulled into the semi-abandoned parking lot and Scott hopped out of the truck telling us to stay there. I shrugged out of the leather jacket and handed it to a shivering Jen in the backseat. Feeling Connors breath on my neck as I did so made me sit back down in shock. My door opened abruptly and I fell backwards as a yelp escaped my lips.

Connors arm wrapped around my waist and set me on my feet. I muttered a thank you and said aloud,"You could've knocked to warn me Scott."

He glared at me,"You would've seen me coming back if you hadn't been flirting."

Jerk.

"I was not flirting." I snapped at him.

He sneered knowingly,"Whatever Amy. The rest of you guys, pile out."

Scott threw the duffle bag over one shoulder and spoke,"I'd like us to find two adjoined rooms for safety okay?"

We all nodded tiredly and shuffled up the sidewalk to the rooms.

"Can we just go with these two?" Molly asked tiredly and Scott nodded.

"We need the keys for these rooms though." Connor spoke up,"I'll run down to the front desk and grab the key cards for rooms..206 and 207. Be back in a few."

I excused myself and ran after him,"I'll come with you..for safety."

He laughed softly,"Something tells me that a zombie could eat you right up Amy."

I swallowed thinking about the rib cage-less zombie that almost got me when I was grabbing the duffle. I winced a bit at the memory.

"Yeah zombies are creepy when they're that close." I said quietly.

He stopped,"What happened?"

"Oh you know me, being my spur of the moment self and things got to close...and well yeah. Scott saved me there." I told him trying to brush it off as nothing.

Connor frowned at me,"You need to be more careful." he said before jumping the front desk and pilfering the drawers there.

"Gotcha!" he said doing a little fist pump making me laugh. I stopped laughing when I heard the distinct ding of an elevator.

I tiptoed around the corner eyeing the hallway. Connor walked past me and down the hall. He froze in front of the elevator.

"What?" I asked and hurried toward him.

I instantly regretted it. The elevator door was opening and closing every few seconds as the sensors caught on the rotting carcass of a middle aged woman, whose hair was caught up in the moving door, making her body shift back and forth with the door.

Bile rose up in my stomach and my hand flew over my mouth as I ran outside and threw up everything that was in my stomach. The image of her body was burned in my mind.

"Amy, I'm sorry I let you see that." Connors voice called from behind me.

I shook my head,"It was my fault, I shouldn't have run over there to see."

He nodded and grabbed my hand pulling me toward our rooms with the card keys in hand.

We got there and everyone sighed in either aggitation or relief. I was too tired to care about a shower tonight, I would do that in the morning. My body hit one of the beds and I instantly fell into a dreamless sleep.
