DELANEY 9
Delaney had been moved from one foster home to another ever since her mother died of cancer . She was still so young but as the doctors put it ,age doesn't really matter, most people just felt her mother was the most unlucky person to walk the earth . After running away from home at sixteen, getting involved with gangs and street violence  ,and  becoming a crack head  . At twenty-three she finally got clean and met somebody. Delaney still remembers how her mom used to describe him , she would always end by saying " if I didn't know any better I'd say he wasn't human " and then she'd laugh and just as quickly grow sad again at the thought of how delaneys' dad had left her without warning just as soon as he found out she was pregnant. She'd look at Delaney with equal amounts of melancholy and unconditional love and then she'd kiss her forehead, hold her tight and say " at least I've got you baby girl " . The only thing she had left from her mom was a silver necklace with a lightening bolt that her mom had gotten from her dad  . Even though she was just ten years old she had a very high understanding of the way things worked , she knew she couldn't sit around all day feeling sorry for herself, her mother had a philosophy about life that she also planned to live by ' no matter how long the night the day will come ' . The foster home were she was at the moment wasn't so bad compared to others that she'd been to , no nasty old foster moms abusing orphaned kids just for the fun of it and no creepy pedophile foster dads coming into the girls rooms at night to have ' secret tickle time ' with her bunk mate . She fit in well enough, and even though she tried to avoid it she always had a few friends. Her closest friend was a little eleven year old African-American girl named Marie . Delaney and Marie were exact opposites ,with delaneys fair skin , raven black hair she got from her mother and her brilliant blue eyes her mom always said reminded her of her dad . While Marie , had curly brown hair , golden brown eyes and light coppery skin. Delaney always thought that sometimes she'd seen Marie's eyes glow the dull yellow of a flame whenever she smiled then she'd look again and they'd be normal again , she'd just write it off as a trick of the light . Even with these differences it was like their brain waves always fell in sync , they were almost always completing each other's sentences. But deep down Delaney knew that there was a spark of electricity inside her that made her different from every other person on the planet .
*********************************************************Azari watched from his heavenly abode as Delaney fell asleep in her little bed . Her face was so angelic in the moonlight seeping through the nearby window . She looked so much like her mother , and surprisingly, also like soyala . Azari realized that if he and soyala ever had a daughter of their own she might turn out to look exactly like Delaney . She would have soyalas long black hair and his glacier blue eyes . Pain rippled through his heart at the thought of soyala and how much he had betrayed her . " she will never forgive this " he said to him self still staring down at his daughter with agonizing melancholy. He smiled at the bittersweet thought of how something so wonderful could come out of that terrible action . Some might have thought that the human he laid with was just a " minor fling " as humans would call it but contrary to this he truly cared for Amanda . She had a fire that he had not seen in a human in a long time , it was as thought she lived to resist . She defied everything , that was why he was so attracted to her . The urge to tell soyala about everything suddenly hit him , but was followed with the fear of what soyala might do if she ever found out . Not fear for himself off course, but fear for the little girl who did not ask to be born , from his own experience soyala could be very cold and intimidating when she wanted to be . The last time she got angry the entire human race payed the price this was what wad know as the ice age by the mortals . He could not risk her finding out and because of that choose to fight against humanity and not to protect it . He needed someone to get the child and protect her at any cost until such a time that he was sure that he was ready , he needed the help of the pontifex
