Joel and Moriah looked at each other. Then they looked at the clipboard.
They just couldn't believe it.

The nurse but her lip and signalled them to follow her.
She led them through some hallways and into a secured room.

Alexis laid in the bed, a breathing mask on her face. The machines beeped, and she was covered in wires. She looked pale, weak.
Dead.

The nurse tapped on her shoulder.
"Alexis," she whispered.
Alexis fluttered her eyes open. The light stung her eyes, but she forced to open them. Slowly, she became comfortable with the light.

Moriah rushed to her side and carefully held her hand.
Her tears flew as she moved.
Joel walked up to her other side, soothing Alexis's hair.

Joel looked at the nurse and spoke in a low, quiet, serious voice.
"Can we be alone?"
The nurse nodded and walked out.

Leaving Joel, Moriah, and Alexis alone.
Alexis finally spoke.
"What is going on?"
Joel and Moriah looked at each other.
Joel nodded, and he looked at Alexis, tears filled his eyes.
Moriah silently cried, she held Joel's hand.

It was time to let the truth go.
He took a deep breath.
"Alexis, there is something we must tell you."

Alexis grew in fear. Moriah began to cry, and Joel began. My

"When you were a baby, you died. Remember?"
Alexis nodded, paying close attention to every word.
Moriah wrapped her hands around Joel's arm, tears streaming silently down her face.

"Well, you turned out to be a healthy baby. Nothing wrong. A strong girl. That was, until a couple of months ago. When you and Moriah had that checkup."

Flashback, at the check up.

Alexis walked into the champagne colored room. The nurse smiled and tapped on the table.
"Sit down, sweetie."

Alexis did as she was told. She sat down and smiled as the nurse told her that she was going to listen to her heart.

The nurse pressed on her chest.
It was an unusual heart beat.
"Can you breathe in and out for me, slowly?"
Alexis did so, and the nurse recorded the heart beat.

It was fast, then slowly, then fast, stopped for a second, and back slowly.
That was not the correct her beat pattern.

The nurse began to ask Alexis questions.
"Have you felt, dizzy or tired these days?"
Alexis thought for a second.
"I've had chest pain, and i have felt dizzy and nauseous."
The nurse nodded and wrote down every detail.
"Anything else?"

Alexis cocked her head and responded.
"I sometimes loose my breath and can barely breathe. I also have woken up in the middle of the night and couldn't breathe."

The nurse wrote that down, her eyes were full of fear as she thought of what Alexis might have.

End of Flashback

Joel kept going.
"The doctors studied your symptoms and your studies concluded to one thing."
Alexis's eyes grew as Joel continued.

Flashback at Checkup

Doctor Johnson took a seat, and showed Moriah and Joel the results from Alexis.

"We have received some information and have concluded a diagnosis for Alexis Smallbone."

Moriah and Joel look up with fear of the next words.
Dr. Johnson went on.

"Alexis Smallbone's symptoms include Chest pain, vomiting, short-breath, rapid heart beating, no pulse, dizziness, and nauseousness. And there is only one thing that those symptoms match."
