"Honey, wake up." Someone said, nudging me awake.
"Hmmm?" I mumbled, rolling over and curling up under the covers.
"You're late for work."
And that's all it took for me to jump out of bed, grabbing my bag and phone, and stumble down the stairs.
"Thanks ma!" I shouted, running out the door and down the street.
I was going to be late...again. All because I fell asleep. I blame it on all the homework my teachers gave me. I mean it was a Friday! You'd think they'd give us a break.
I sighed, checking my phone for the time. 6 o'clock. I was supposed to be there an hour ago. I picked up my pace until finally, 5 minutes later (a new record if I do say so myself), I barged through Barley's. It was a little convienient store that was really popular, even with the name suprisingly enough.
"You're late. You're going to have to stay an extra hour. Keep it up and you won't be here much longer." My manager Shirley said, glaring at me over the rim of her glasses.
"I know, I know, sorry." I waved a hand dissmissively, heading for the shelves.
"Oh and uniforms are coming in Monday, so get here earlier than 5."
I nodded even though she couldn't see me. I began stacking and re-aranging the shelves for the nest 3 hours.
"Finally," I mumbles, " time to go ho--" I was cut off by a gasp echoing through the store.
I frowned, going to see what was wrong but stopped dead in my tracks when I heard a click of a gun.
"Shut up and maybe I'll let you live." a deep voice growled.
His voice sent chills through me.
"Now open the cash register and give me all the money inside."
My breathing hitched and I started having a panic attack in my head, trying to be quiet. I fumbled for my phone but accidently dropped it from shaking so much. I watched in horror as it clanged to the for loudly, breaking in pieces,
I bit my lip nervously, backing up slowly towards the exit when I was pulled back roughly. My scream muffled by a hand. Whoever grapped me yanked me through the back door and into the cold Decemeber night air.
What am I going to do? What am I going to do?! My mind kept screaming over and over again until I came up with an idea. Not the best one but I had to try.
I bit his hand, elbowed him in the stomach, spun around and kicked him in the groin. His face twisted in pain as he dropped to the ground, clutching his stomach and crotch while groaning.
My eyes widened. I can't believe I just did that! Without more time to think I took off down the alley.
"You idiot! You let her get away!" The voice that still gave me chills, boomed. I heard a thump and another groan before footsteps pounded my way.
Crap, he's chasing me! How am I supposed to get away now?!
Sirens errupted ahead.
Yes! My chance to get away! I thought smiling slightly. The guy cursed behind me, his footsteps getting closer. I ran faster toward the sirens but tripped headed face first onto the concrete. But as I was about to hit the ground an arm snaked around my waist, yanking me back up. He pulled me into the farthest and darkest corner in the alley.
Something cold and smooth was pressed against my head, I winced.
"Say something or try to get away I shoot." he growled low in my ear.
I shivered, and it definetly wasn't from the cold.
Shadows zoomed past us, up the alley. I saw them grab the guy, that was still on the ground in pain, and haul him up. I almost laughed but then I remebered I'd be dead in a split second if I did. I bit my toungue and watched--wait, they were cops! They didn't even see me! All my hope vanished and I saw them snap handcuffs on him and slip him in the back of a police car. Most of the drove off and the rest went inside Barley's to see what happened.
"Come on." the guy with the scary gun hissed. He dragged me down the alley until we reached a black car which he shoved me into. The last thing I saw before he shut the door was a devious smirk playing across his face.
