the mute

I get out of my shower and put a tee shirt and sweatpants on. As I comb my hair, I notice my window open. I huff and close, though I feel as if that's not enough. I drop my comb on my bed, I feel someone watching me.

Two people watching me. I shiver. Isaac? No. He's not here. He's...gone...

I turn around and practically shrivel up into a ball. I tried to scream, nothing. I try to yell, nothing. I close my eyes, gather everything up, and open my mouth. A long, hollowed, hyena like scream barreled out. I open my eyes, scared for life.

There, right in front of me, the mute. I gulp, praying for life. Praying for mercy. My arms are parallel to my hips, and I feel naked. He looks at me with a cold stare in his icy eyes and I feel a gust of wind from my window behind me. I turn around, scared of what's next.

There, right behind me, staring with golden eyes at the mute, was Liam.

Fangs and all.

I wasn't scared like I was with Isaac. I felt protected. More protected than Isaac protecting me. I felt different. Because Isaac's fangs felt different in my mind.

Liam's fangs looked like Liam.

Not a monster.

He charged at The mute, scratching him and all. I couldn't look. I sunk into a slouch against my wall, scared for my life, and Liam's. Suddenly the mute charged out of my window, into the street. Liam tried to get a look at where he was headed, but it was too late, just a shadow of the dark street and the moonlight illuminated the town. No mute. anywhere.

Liam sunk back into a human, his eyes sinking, his nails dissolving, his fangs, disappearing.

"Thank you." I stuttered, mouth dry. He breathed heavily and walked towards the open window, whipping with midnight wind. I stopped him.

"Liam?" He turned his head slightly towards me.

"Can you stay with me?" He was now turned fully around, smiling.
