My eyes flung open. In front of me was a white wall with no pictures. It wasn't my room, I could tell that right away. This place I was in gave me a dead, horrible feeling. My heart started to beat faster as I realized, that only my eyes could move, nothing else could. All of a sudden lights started flashing and sounds of loud beeping rang around the room.
People started coming in. First it was a nurse who started talking to me and pushing my chair into somewhat of an upright position. As I moved my eyes, their where a lot of wires connected to me. Most of the machines were beeping. Next thing I know doctors of all sorts are rushing in. Waves of pain are flowing through my body and a headache starts to come on.
A small women takes 2 needles and inserts the liquid into me. The doctor is talking to me and then yelling around the room, ordering people things to do.
"Everything is going to be alright Allyson," is all that I could make out from what he was saying.
Other doctors start to pull needles and tubes out of my body and push new ones in. For some reason I am now able to move my head and my fingers, at least the ones that don't hurt. I turn my head looking straight in fount of me now, into a mirror with a picture of myself.
"Allyson, Allyson," said someone. I turned my head to the doctor, who now removed my breathing mask from my face.
"Allyson, How do you feel," he asked.
"I....am.....hurting.....," I said realizing how hard it is for me to talk. "Why....is .....my.......(deep breath)....voice......like.....this," I asked.
"Karen get some water, and a dose of that medicine that is on my desk," he said, "Well Allyson, you haven't used your voice in awhile now, so it is hard to speak".
The nurse came in and handed him a shot and a small bottle of medicine. He reviewed my papers and then took a dose of the shot and put it in my arm. Immediately I felt a sense of relief in my body.
"Ok Allyson, I want you to get some rest, and in the morning the regular doctor will be with you," he said as he walked out.
Wasn't I just asleep? How long have I been out? What time is it? What is happening?
(Next Morning)
I woke up with a sharp pain in my body. Another beeping sound went around the room. Suddenly a women in a white coat came in. She pressed a few things on the machine next to me and then sat on the end of my bed. She had dark jet black hair with deep brown eyes.
"Ms. Keg, correct," she said. I nodded my head. She lifted hers and started speaking again. "Well Ms. Keg I have a lot of important news to tell you," she said. She then took a deep breath.
What was about to come out of her mouth, I'd never think that in a million years this would happen to me.
"Ms. Keg," she said, "I am Dr. Mina".
"Call me Allyson," I managed to get out.
"Allyson, I am sorry to say this but your father has passed away," she said.
My heart stopped and I stared into her eyes reading that she was telling me the truth. Silence feel between us. I took a deep breath in and out. I closed my eyes and for the very first time prayed that everything would be alright. I felt warm water streaming down my cheeks. I feel quick gasps for air and then a body grabbed mine and rubbed my back making me feel safe.
"Allyson, I am sorry," said Dr. Mina, "But I have more to tell you".
I am pretty sure I sat their crying for at least a couple of hours. I sure wasn't ready for this, and I knew I wasn't ready for what was to come next. Because that would change my life for ever.....
