M I N S E O K

1st March, 2006
At the crack of dawn on a particular Monday, a young boy was complaining to his mother.

"I don't want to go to a new school! And what was wrong with our old town?"

"I've already told you Minseok." She sighed. "It's time for us to have a new life. We need to let go of the past, and embrace the future." Minseok's mother tenderly said, thinking of Minseok's father.

Minseok's father had suffered from lung cancer and had sadly passed away one month ago.

"Ugh, fine. Whatever!" The teenage boy grumbled. "I'm leaving now." He said annoyed at his mothers behaviour.

"But school doesn't start until another two hours." Mrs. Kim pointed out.

"I'm buying snacks for the day." Minseok lied. The truth was, he really needed to get some air and to get away from the suffocating atmosphere that was his house.

For the past month all that was happening was mourning. Relatives came in just to cry alongside Minseok's mother. His grandparents had come to stay with them for a week, and all that they had done, was sob.

It was like they had nothing else to do.

Not to mention, the house was still full of unpacked boxes. No one had bothered to unpack because they were too busy grieving.

While all of this was happening, Minseok had been holed up in his room silently praying for his father. He was also regretting that he didn't tell his father to stop smoking. He was an avid smoker and Minseok had always been worried for him, yet he never voiced his opinion out to his father, whom he was very concerned about.

Minseok appreciated the fresh, cool air as he slowly walked in the direction of his new school. The sun had just started to rise and it was a very beautiful sight indeed.

He spotted a park and decided to sit there for a while as he had quiet a large amount of time until school would start.

There was a bench in front of a pond where ducks had just started to wake up. He sat down there and admired the view for a while, until his peaceful time was interrupted by a couple of feminine voices.

"Soojin, you should just ask him out!"

Another girl giggled. "I can't, girls aren't supposed to make the first move."

"Well he's so obviously into you. Ugh, you guys are so frustrating." The first voice sighed.

Minseok simply didn't care about foolish girly gossip. He decided it was time to start heading to the school anyway.

As he was getting up, one of the two girls spotted him and immediately stopped talking.

The other girl also noticed and stared at poor Minseok who felt overwhelmed by the gazes of the two girls.

He slowly crept away from the park, but just as he was leaving he heard one of them start speaking again.

"He's so cute with his chubby cheeks. I wanna pinch them." Both of the girls erupted into giggles while Minseok walked away, flustered.

It was almost seven in the morning and Minseok had no idea where he was. He was supposed to be at school by 6:30 to receive his timetable and his locker assignment among other things.

One thing that Minseok hated, was leaving a bad first impression, and getting to school late was one of the worst first impressions he could make.
