*******************************************************************************************************************

Mid November and the soccer season was in full swing. Practises were becoming more frequent and gruelling, Hailey was practically buckling under the pressure. Her mood was often murderous and the girls on the team were dangerously close to locking her in a cupboard in hopes that she would calm down. Jake was just as bad, if not worse. He had the boys practising late into the evening, his drill sergeant routine tiring not only his team but himself. There would be days where I would catch him practising late into the night in his back yard or doing a couple of push ups on his balcony, his arms straining with the effort.

"The first game is this Saturday Jake. You need to give your body and your team a break so that they can recover from all the training you've been doing" I sigh as I catch him doing push ups on his balcony again. His jet black hair was matted down with sweat, and his wife beater was completely soaked, I have no idea how long he's been at it but judging by his ragged breathing it's been quite awhile.

"Can't. First game determines the rest of the season" he grounds out, his biceps flexing with each move.

"I know that" I say with a hint of annoyance "But your going to be no good for the first game if your body is too exhausted to even kick the damn soccer ball"

He ignores me and continues doing his stupid push ups, it was seven o'clock on a Sunday night and in less than a week the boy's soccer team were versing one of the near by schools. The girls had our game on Monday at the school grounds and fortunately Coach had convinced Hailey to slow down training to working on technique, so that our muscles weren't aching on Monday.

"Fine have it your way" I mutter racking my brain for some reason other than exhausting his body to deter him form his regime "Hey, have you completed your Chemistry homework?"

"No" he grunts and I quickly bid him a farewell before going inside and gathering my chemistry homework. There is no way I'm letting him carry on with this stupid macho routine of his. I run downstairs books in hand only to get stopped in my tracks by my dad.

"And where do you think young lady?" he asks crossing his arms over his chest. A stern expression on his face.

"The Carters. I was hoping to finish my Chemistry homework and Jake is my chemistry partner so..." I say awkwardly shuffling on the spot.

"I'm only joking with you kiddo go ahead and wish Jake good luck for the game on Saturday" he calls out to me as I sprint to the front door. I nod in acknowledgment and close the door behind me. November has been such a boring month with the exceptions of my mother's birthday and soccer practice, where watching Hailey order us around was both amusing and scary. I guess Jake was just a little distraction from my tedious life...eh works for me.

I ring the doorbell of the Carters home and in no time at all Aidan opens the door a grin lighting up his face when he sees me. "Amelia! It's been awhile, come in"

"Thanks, sorry I haven't talked to you much lately but schools been pretty hectic"

Aidan waves away my apology and glances down at the books in my hands "Care to explain the reason for the books or...."

"It's the chemistry homework Jake and I were assigned to do together, except he's too busy doing his stupid push ups" I roll my eyes at this and Aidan laughs a little.
