Chapter 14: Abducted

"Olivia..."

A wave of realization hits Olivia and she tries at a smile, though I see how tight and wound up it is. She sighs. "Sorry. I got all confusing on you." She purses her lips and my eyes are drawn to them when she does this. "My eyes are up here, Riley."

My face flushes as I meet her amused, green eyes. Damn it, why am I always embarrassing myself? I look away from her. She chuckles and tugs on my waist. "Not that I mind you looking." She mutters quietly. "If you want to kiss me all you have to do is ask."

I smirk. "Is that supposed to be a clever way to hint that you want me to kiss you?"

"I wouldn't be against it," she says, not really answering my question, but I don't mind it.

My hands come around to the back of her neck, feeling her soft, wavy hair entwine around my fingers and I pull, just enough to let her know I want her to lean down for me. She does just that and I inch up a little more. I feel her nose graze mine and I close my eyes when Olivia's eyelids slide to a shut as well.

The moment I start to feel the shadow of her lips on mine, we hear a crash.

The crash makes us both jump and turn quickly to look for the source of the unexpected noise.

There's a red face in the crowd and I quickly notice the silver mask and dark, navy blue uniform. The person dressed up in a waiter's uniform, carrying a tray with glasses filled with red liquid looks down at the floor, where I'm sure a cup had fallen and broken. Viola's face is beat red as she looks down at the cup.

She quickly mutters an apology to the waiter and bends to pick up the mess.

"Poor Viola," Olivia says quietly. "Being a Royal Guard is hard for her. She's the only human working there."

It was a bit strange because that'd be the second thing Viola had spontaneously dropped. I remembered the card she'd tried to give to me and dropped in the car. I remembered seeing her twitch just a little before dropping it to the floor. Was it just a coincidence? Maybe she's just a klutz.

"She's sure clumsy," I say, deciding on the latter.

"I wish," Olivia sighs.

I frown, wanting her to continue, but she steps back and drops her arms. "I'd better go make sure she's all right." She goes to walk away, but freezes and turns back to me. She leans down and I feel her lips on my cheek. "See you."

I give a feeble wave, unable to contain the grin on my face.

The dance was dying down and more people were leaving by the second, ready for sleep. Though, I'm sure some couples were going to do more than just sleep. I was waiting for Maya, but she seemed to be far too busy with that Jason guy. Olivia had vanished with her group and Bradley was still stuffing his face at the buffet table. Well, I had nobody to hang out with right now. I considered talking to Viola, but she was already doing something I thought she might not want to take her attention away from.

So when it was about 6 am, I left.

When I got outside, I felt the unfamiliar feeling of warmth on my skin as the sun was beginning to rise. The dorms looked dark and the courtyard vacant, except for a few students. The food court was entirely empty, the humans that served were probably home at this time.

I got into my dorm room and got changed, ready to hop into bed and sleep until it was time to get up in the morning. I had hooked up my phone and sat down on the edge of the bed, when I heard something.
