Both of you are shivering from the cold. But even so, the beautiful sight of the glistening snow on the trees helps take both of your minds off of it. Soon you see a large branch in the path. You could not move it, it was way too big. You simply stepped over it and kept walking.

Moments later you hear a huge snap behind you. You look back and the branch is in pieces. You feel a presence... But shrug it off. You've felt presences that weren't there before. You kept walking when you heard footsteps behind you. You turned but there was nobody to be seen. You looked at Flowey, who also seemed afraid. That's a good sign you're not just seeing things. You start to pick up the pace, eventually breaking into a full speed run. But with the cold biting at your lungs, you quickly run out of breath. You kept walking when you heard a rough voice behind you that made you freeze dead. "Human." You remain completely still. "Hey, don't you know how to greet a new friend? Shake my hand." You decide that doing what he says is probably the best course of action right now. You turn, but you couldn't make out who this was, it was too dark. He held out his hand, and you took it. Suddenly, you felt a shock on your palm. It didn't really hurt, but you recoiled from reflex. The area seemed I brighten a bit, and you could now make out who this was.

He appeared to be a short skeleton, with spiked teeth, one being gold, and glowing white pinpricks for pupils. He wore a red undershirt beneath a black leather jacket, lined with silver fur. He had on shorts despite the cold, which were black with a yellow stripe, and wore red and white shoes. A joy buzzer was attached to his hand.

"Heh, old joy buzzer prank. Never gets old."

You had an idea. A pretty stupid one, nonetheless, but maybe it could earn you some reputation with your "new friend". "I'm Sans. Sans the skeleton." You took his hand and properly shook it, now that you knew the shock was there. While still shaking his hand, you greeted yourself. "(Y/N). It's NICE to meet YOU." He took his hand away from yours and laughed for a bit. His laugh was gruff, but seemed genuine. This is a good sign. "Thanks for the proper greeting, kid. Don't mind the pain, huh?" You laughed with him. "Not really. I'm just stupid and wanted to see if I could." Flowey muttered a little "You idiot..." Before joining in the laughter. You all laughed a bit before you heard trudging through the snow. Sans's expression immediately changed to sadness, the kind of sadness that has been felt for so long that it almost looked routine for him to feel it... mixed along with fear. You stop laughing. "Listen, kid, I'm supposed to be on patrol for humans. You're lucky I don't kill you where you stand." You felt a chill slidedown your back. "But if you just stand there, my brother, Papyrus... He's a human hunting FANATIC. He will end you in a single beat of that tiny heart of yours. If you want to live, I suggest you come with me..." You followed him across a bridge with wide bars across it... "Quick, behind that rock over there." There were a few rocks, you picked the nearest one and leapt behind it. You and Flowey were dead silent when you heard an annoyed groan. "Sans! Why are you not at your station?! You are supposed to keep watch for humans!" The voice was higher pitched, and was fuming. "Papyrus, please, listen, I--" There was the sound of a smack before a grunt, and a faint thud. "You are to refer to me as your boss, in case you don't remember, worthless."

Sans's voice became unsteady. "I-I'm so sorry, boss, I don't know how I could've forgotten..." There was a scoff. "How will I ever capture a human with you leaving your station like this?!" Papyrus seemed to get angrier and angrier. "I'm sorry, I- I thought I saw something move!" It kept going on. "Wow, how mean can one monster be?" Flowey whispered. However, it was just a bit too loud.

Papyrus stopped his lecture instantly and faced the rocks he heard some kind of noise from... He walked over... He quickly raised his hand and orange bones rose from the ground, instantly crushing the rock next to you. He muttered something to himself before walking back. "It isn't worth my breath to talk to you any longer. Return to your station at once." You could hear footsteps fading away. You looked over and saw a small tear on the edge of his eye socket. This hasn't been a first time thing... You could tell by the look of engraved sadness in his eyes. You wanted to help.

-Sans P.O.V.-

This is my chance.

I will kill this brat.

I will show him I'm useful.

I will present this brat's soul to him.

I will prove to him I'm not worthless...

I'm not worthless...

...

Right?

He seems deep in his thoughts... You decide to try to help him. You said in the same voice as when you first met Flowey... "Sans...? You need to stop listening to his crap... You're far from worthless..." You put your hand on his back. A red glow came from the left side of his face. "Sans?" You heard a snicker. He turned and grabbed your hand, in a way which hurt. His right eye was blank, his left was red, and looked like it was on fire. "YOU'RE DAMN RIGHT I'M NOT!" You felt a force slam you into the nearest tree. He was laughing, you could see a sadistic glint in his eye... "AND I'LL PROVE IT WHEN I TAKE YOUR SOUL!" Another force slammed you into the ground. "You don't need to prove it! Sans! Stop!" He laughed at your plead. "You really think you can stop me?" He slams you into the ground again. "You're a little human. I'll bet you would hold a knife the wrong way if you were given one, you couldn't fight if you were up against someone weaker than you! You're powerless!" You repeated those words in your mind... 'You would hold a knife the wrong way if given one.' 'Kill him. Show him how "powerless" you are.' No. 'Come on, you know you want to. Just SNAP HIS NECK. The crack would sound to beautifu-- "I SAID NO!"

Bones rose from the ground, however these were blue. They barely missed you. "Come on, brat! You that stupid? At least try to fight back! Make me laugh!" You set Flowey down and told him you would be okay, as he was just stunned at the while situation. You then immediately jumped back to dodge more bones. "Sans! You don't have to do this! You don't need their praise, it isn't worth it!" You were slammed into another tree. "What do you know about anything, brat?!" More bones rose from the ground, one slices through your arm. You thought about how you tried for so long to get praise from your superiors at the orphanage... It wasn't worth all of your efforts. "I- I just know. Please, listen. You may get praised, but that's all. An empty "nice going." Another bone sliced your leg. You looked over, and he had an inexplicable expression.

-Sans P.O.V.-

...what the hell...

Is this brat doing to me?

I'm not feeling anything when I see her bloodshed but....

Remorse?

What the HELL?

I need to do this, everything that she says is just a desperate attempt to survive... THIS WILL END HER.

...

...

How does she keep dodging all these attacks?

AND WHY DOESNT SHE FIGHT BACK. "JUST GIVE IT UP BRAT! FIGHT OR DIE!"

"No! Both of us know that this won't lead to anything real in the end. You'll be thought of the same. Please, stop. I promise you I can actually help."

What..?

-Reader P.O.V.-

His attacks slowed, then ceased. He fell to his knees and was crying. You slowly stepped over...

"NO!" You were hurled in every direction, slammed against every object. "I NEED THIS! I- I'm doing this because..." His attack slowed... "You don't. Please Sans. I know what you think doing this will solve, it won't. Please." He collapsed, and You approached him again. "Sans?"

Silence.

You took another step towards him. "Sans?"

"...why?" You remained silent. "Why are you so damn NICE to me? I tried to murder you..." You walked in front of him and cautiously put your hand on his shoulder. "It's okay. I forgive you." Although he slightly flinched, he didn't act against you for putting your hand on his shoulder... You decided to hug him. His breathing hitches before he hugs back, a bit tightly. "...Hey kid?" "Yes?"

"Don't tell anyone any of this ever happened, alright?" A little "heh.." Comes from you before you reply.

"Of course."
