The restaurant was pretty dark, but that didn't change the view of Anthony on one side of me and Kris on the other. Across from me sat Jake Arrieta, and I thought that was the coolest part. He's obviously the best pitcher on the Cubs and arguably the best in the league. Plus, he pitched a gem today and is definitely my second favorite player. Now he's sitting across from me with his wife on one side and David on the other.
Both of my hands were resting on my legs underneath the table. Anthony's leg was practically leaned up again mine which left me unable to think straight. There was no way I was even going to be able to order food. I was surrounded by some of the greatest baseball players in the game, and it was taken all of me to not freak out.
All of a sudden, Anthony put his hand on my leg underneath the table. My heart rate must've gone up so high, it was dangerous. I had an overwhelming amount of butterflies in my stomach. His thumb caressed the top of my knee. I looked over at him and returned his smile. He was so cute, and all I could think about was what he was thinking about. I mean what was he thinking?
"So Ryne," Jake said gaining my attention.
Instantly, I started to freak out again. Jake Arrieta was talking to me! Could this night get any better?
"Where are you from?" He asked.
"Oh I'm from Chicago. I'm just going to school in Milwaukee," I replied trying hard to be cool.
Something I said must've gained Anthony's attention, as he was now staring at me intently. "Wait you're from Chicago?" He asked with a huge smile on his face.
"Yeah," I answered confused by his excitement.
Then it hit me. Tomorrow after their game, they were going to Miami for a series against the Marlins. It's not like they were going to be in Milwaukee forever. Instead, they are going to be in Chicago most of the summer, except for a few road trips here and there. Was that what he was thinking? School was over in less than two weeks and then I'd be back in Chicago with my family for the summer. Was he excited that we'd have all summer together?
I started smiling too, and I think he noticed that I was finally picking up on what he was saying. His hand left my leg and intertwined with my hand. The feeling I had right now was indescribable. I think he actually liked me. Yeah, I won't be able to see him for another two weeks after tomorrow, but then we'd have three months. At this point, summer couldn't come soon enough.
"So why UW Milwaukee?" Jake asked unaware of the looks me and Anthony were exchanging.
"Oh umm," I started but struggled to continue. I looked up at Jake and lost my train of thought. There was just so many amazing things going on right now that I was quickly becoming a mess. I had to quick say something smart, before he started to think I was weird. "They have a really good journalism program."
"You want to be a journalist?" Brittany, Jake's wife, asked smiling
"Yeah I think so," I replied with an even bigger smile.
I instantly became jealous of her. She was cool, beautiful, and Jake's wife. Granite, I liked where I sat better with Anthony, but it's not like we were getting married any time soon. She was so confident, and I was the complete opposite.
We ordered our food, but I knew I'd hardly be eating. I was trying to take this all in, however, it was starting to become a lot. Anthony had been talking to David most of the time and Willson Contreras who sat on the other side of him, with a little interaction with Jake. Kris was talking to his fiancé, Jessica, and Brittany. So, I pretty much sat there talking to no one, but I was okay with it.
"Hey Ryne," Willson said gaining my attention while we both leaned back, as Anthony leaned forward. "Can you pass me the butter?"
I couldn't help but let out a small laugh. I handed him the butter without saying anything. It was funny watching him interact with David and Anthony. He had only been up in the big leagues for about a week and despite seeming confident, you could tell there were still some nerves. It sounded like he was a pretty nice guy.
After we finished eating, we all went our separate ways. I followed Anthony to his car and stepped in while he held the door for me. He pulled out of the parking space, and I got really excited when I realized he was going in the direction of his hotel, not my dorm room.
So I'm pretty proud of myself right now! I got this update done in time. I promise I'll try really hard to have the next update by Tuesday. Right now I'm writing this other story that I'm going to be putting on Wattpad soon. It's almost done, so then I'll be able to spend all my time on this story. I'm also having a lot of fun on writing MLB Imagines. I have a lot in the making and I'm going to start publishing them all soon!
Thanks guys!
