Chapter 20

"So LA doesn't know you're my neice." Scooter imformed me as we walked into the headquarters building. I'd never even been there before. He paused infront of the lift, pressing the button.

"Why?" I asked.

"Because if i said you were my neice, he'd think i was biased. And he probably wouldn't give you a chance."

I nodded, it kinda made sense. I realised now how desperatley i wanted this. I wanted a shot at living my dream and it was right there at my finger tips. My life practially rested in LA's hands.

The doors pinged open and i followed Scooter in. "We'll tell him right after you've sung though okay? When he's already realised how amazing you are."



We stepped into a hallway on the third floor, and i followed my uncle into another room. I swallowed nervously.

"Hey man!" Scooter grinned. He was pulled into a hug.

"Scoot, long time no see."

I looked up and saw LA. My heart started pounding.

"I know right. How you doing Antonio?"

"Im good. You?"

"Doing well man, im doing well."

They stepped out of the hug and they both looked at me.

"This is Ariana." Scooter introduced.

"Sup Ariana, Im Antonio, or LA if you like."

"Wow." I stammered, nervously shaking his hand. "It's so amazing to meet you."

"Aha you too." He replied. "You gotta be a special one for these guys to call me up during the holidays."

I blushed. Usher came into view. "Oh she is." He assured. He gave me a side hug.

"Then what are we waiting for? I got a family at home i need to get back to. Lets get started."

I couldn't help but feel he seemed disinterested? I knew it was the holidays, but i needed him to give me a chance. Did he not realise how important this was for me? It was make or break..

The three of them took a seat at the conference-like table, and they all turned to look at me. Scooter gave me a nod and i took a deep breath, then started singing.

I had chosen to sing a song called 'A Thousand Years' by Christina Perri. It was a beautiful song, and i loved it. It was one of those songs you could put every single bit of emotion you had into, and that's exactly what i decided to do.

"Heart beats fast, colors and promises. How to be brave? How can I love when I'm afraid to fall? But watching you stand alone, all of my doubt suddenly goes away somehow."

I my eyes were shut, as i rocked slightly on my feet, moving my arms a little.

"One step closer... I have died everyday waiting for you, darling don't be afraid I have loved you for a thousand years, i'll love you for a thousand more.

Time stands still, beauty in all she is. I will be brave, i will not let anything take away what's standing in front of me. Every breath, every hour has come to this. One step closer."

I completely lost myself in the song. I forgot where i was.. It was just me and the lyrics. Absolutely nothing else. I finished up the chorus and came to the finale of the song. I gave it all i could.

"And all along I believed I would find you, time has brought your heart to me, i have loved you for a thousand years. I'll love you for a thousand more." I finished on a long note, dragging it out until i felt necessary to stop.

When i finished, i fluttered open my eyelashes, suddenly remembering where i was. Infront of me i saw three shocked faces. Scooter and Usher were grinning excitedly and LA, LA was nodding.

A good sign?

The three of them clapped, their eyes not leaving me for a second. I smiled.

"Wow." LA said. He observed me for a couple of seconds then turned to my uncle and Usher. "You guys really did bring me a star."

A wave of relief and excitement hit me. He liked it!!!!

"We sure did." Usher nodded.

My uncle wrapped an arm around my waist and pulled me into his side. He gave me a huge hug. "I'm so proud of you Ri." He whispered.



The next two days were so happy. Everyone was excited and jolly, not only because of my Christmas, but because things were looking good for me. LA had not out-right said he wanted to sign me, but Usher and Scooter seemed convinced that he would. Meanwhile, we had fun, made memories and cherished eachother's presence while we still could. I loved it.



On Christmas Eve, i was awoken by Justin.

"Ariana." He called softly, i felt his hand brush my cheek. "Wakey, wakey gorgeous."

I opened my eyes sleepily to see him laid on his side, on the bed. His head was propped up with one hand. "Hey Jay." I murmered.

"You gotta get up."

I snuggled into his chest and re-closed my eyes. "Why?"

He shifted his body a little, moving his arm so it was under my neck. He cuddled me gently. "Because im going home today and i want to spend time with you."

This was true. Chaz, Ryan, Fredo and Justin were all flying home that day to spend Christmas with their families. I, along with my Mom, Nonna, Pa and Adam, were all staying at Scooters for another week and a half. I didn't want them to leave at all.
