NIGHTPELT

Night after night, I had snuck Marcie's phone out of her room to text my friend Lenny.

I wonder if he's still online... I wondered, placing my paws around the phone and opening messages. Or, at least, attempting to.

But before I did that, I saw that Marcie set a new passcode on her phone. I wondered what it was, as I darted my eyes around until I caught sight of Oreo.

"Oreo. She trusts you. You've been her cat for seven years. What's the passcode?" I called.

"Um, I think it's her school ID from middle school. 4-5-2-9."

I tapped the numbers into the phone and unlocked it.

It was on a YouTube video of her favorite celebrity singer's high note range.

"Really? That band is so overrated." I wrinkled my nose in disgust. "Her thoughts are so weird..."

I got to the messages app.

I wrote a message...

"Lenny? This is Nightpelt."

Thinking slowly, I remembered the great idea I'd  ask him about.

"Do you want to start a club?"

After a few moments, his reply was: "Hi Nightpelt! Hi Oreo! Hi Zilly! Sure, a club would be AWESOME! Where do you want to meet?"

There were many options. The cafe, the mall, the local park... But we'd be kicked out of two of the three places... Park it is.

"Should we start it in the public park?" I inquired, trying to not seem too pushy.

"That works for me!"

I purred and asked, "What should we call it?"

"How about The Cat Club?"

What a simple, uninteresting name... I love it!

"Awesome name!!"

"Tell the others!!"

I removed the texts after that moment and slipped the phone back into Marcie's tired hand...

"You guys! I was just on the phone with Lenny, texting him. He said we should start a club!"

"Lenny-kun's gonna start a club?! Eeee! What is it?"

"Yeah, Nightpelt!" Oreo beckoned. "Tell us!"

"He said we can start a club in the public park! Called... 'The cat club'! We're holding it starting tomorrow night." I replied proudly.

"But how will we leave without owner-chan seeing us?" Zilly asked worriedly.

"She's got a point, Nightpelt." Oreo agreed. "There are no cat flaps in the house and we can't reach the doors. How are we supposed to get out?"

I thought long and hard. "We'll have to improvise."

I whispered to the others to form the plan.

"So, here's the plan..."
