Behind her smile

Chapter 3

I stared at Danny as he stood there staring at me, looking in his eyes i had never in my life seen him scared. He looked like a little boy who had lost his toy. Everyone was now staring at him with their eyes wide open, just like i was.

"Oh my god. Is that Danny Lockheart?"

"He looks like shit"

"What happened to him?" I heard people all around me whispering to their friends, all wondering what had happened to him. Danny looked around everyone and continued down the hall, keeping his head down. People started speaking again and spreading out around the hall, getting back to their normal lives. I stood there watching my brother walk past me, i felt Colton put a hand on my shoulder. I truned around and looked up to him seeing the shock and sadness in his eyes. I smiled and looked back to see if i could see Danny but he had dissapeared into the crowd of people. There was something wrong, something huge had happened and i needed to know. Someone had hurt Danny and i didnt have a clue who, i was such a bad sister. How could i not see this coming?

"What the hell happened Livvy?" Rachel asked,slightly raising her voice. I loved her but sometimes she was too much, Colton always knew when to stop but Rachel sometimes when too far, always asking questions. I stared at her for aminute before looking back to Colton, he was glaring at Rachel, his hands clenched into fists. I finally understood why he didnt like Rachel.

"Wh cant you leave it Rachel?" He grumbled, still glaring at her. Rachel's face suddenly changed and it seemed like she was scared of Colton.

"Leave her alone Colt" I mumbled grabbing his arm.

"Lets go, i need to get to my locker" Colton sighed turning around and walking away, i stared after him and shook my head. He was so rude to Rachel sometimes, she didnt do anything. She was just worried about me, it wasnt like she was being bitchy. I turned to face Rachel and saw her looking a bit taken aback by Colton's behaviour.

"Dont mind him, he's just in a bad mood today" I smiled,.

"Sorry Livvy" She smiled back and i shook my head

"Dont be Rach,you didnt do anything. Anyway i better go, see ya" Waving goodbye, i left Rachel standing there and went to look for Colton. Walking down the hallway i noticed people staring at me and whispering, some gave me sympathetic looks and others smiled. I was beginning to feel uneasy as i continued my way to Colton's locker. I noticed him shoving some textbooks in and taking out textbooks he needed, he seemed to be angry. His back was tense and i could tell as i urged closer that there was definitely something wrong. I stood beside him and watched him take deep breaths.

"I can sense you staring at me" He grinned, his eyes still closed. I shook my head laughing, Colton could always make me feel better.

"Oh yeah, i just couldnt resist" I joked laughing as he opened his eyes to look at me. Although he seemed less tense, i knew there was something wrong. He was never good at hiding his emotions, his eyes always gave him away.

"Whats up Colt?" I questioned, he stopped laughing and closed his locker, rubbing the back of his neck he sighed.

"Rachel just annoys me, nothing new" He laughed wrapping his arm around my shoulder, i nodded my head and bit my lip, that wasnt it. He was lying to me, i could tell. I let it slide and continued to walk to homeroom with Colton's arm draped over my shoulder.

Class went by quickly and soon i found myself sitting at a table with Colton and a few of his friends. Rachel was away at some dentist appointment so Colton begged me to have lunch with him and i gave in, currently i was sitting beside Colton and a girl named Dennie. She was part of the popular crowd that always hung around with Colton but she wasnt the slutty type. She was very quiet and stunning, she had chocolat coloured hair and light green eyes, she was sat beside Chase who was Danny's friend, he was funny and considered the clown of the school, he was nice to me so i never really minded. On the other side of Colton was Scott who was the nice guy out of the popular guys, he was completely innocent and was madly inlove with Jessica, his girlfriend who was sitting beside him, she was a cheerleader and she was stunning. She had long chestnut coloured hair and bright blue eyes, she was very sweet to me but to other people she could be a massive bitch. And lastly at the tabble was Sean, he was the biggest flirt in the school and considered the 'bad boy'. I despised him and so did Colton. He slept around with practically every girl in the school, even the freshman. He was good looking, there was no denying, his 6 foot muscular frame was what every girl wanted and his golden brown hair was cut in a way that made every girl mad.

"Hey cutie, why so quiet?" He asked me ,winking as he stared at me. Ugh. I felt Colton tene beside me and i glared back at Sean.

"Dont call me cutie" I growled causing him to chuckle, he smirked at me and looked at Colton. Colton and Sean were enemies, they hated eachother and Sean found it fun to piss of Colton. They had, had fights before ending in them getting suspended for a total of 2 weeks.

"Someones fiesty" He winked back at me but it looked like he said it more to Colton than me. I smirked back at him and sat up in my seat. I saw Chase raise an eyebrow at me.

"Someones cocky" I retorted, noticing Colton laugh i smiled at him.

"You love it babe" He smirked sitting up as well. I shook my head and stared at him.

"How did you know?" I asked pretending to be shocked, Jessica laughed and Colton joined her. I noticed Sean's eyes darken a bit and he smirked even more, ugh . This guy pisses me off.

"I know more about you than you think cutie" He shrugged leaning back in his seat. Jerk.

"Oh, so you know that i hate egotistical jerks like yourself that think sleeping around makes you look cool when really it makes you look desperate and pathetic?" I smirked leaning back in my seat, Colton laughed out loud, along with Dennie and Scott. Sean's smirk vannished and he suddenly looked angry.

"Ohhh man! You just got served" Chase laughed causing me to laugh along with him, Colton looked at me and shook his head laughing. I winked back at him and watched Sean get up and leave out the food hall lookin angry that he let some nobody umiliate him. At school i semed more confident and happier, i didnt think about all the stuff at home. Colton wouldnt let me, i put on a smile and made sure to keep it on for the whole day. But for some reason when i got home, i would take it off and feel so alone. So lost. And i could never escape from that.
