it is the near future, where emotions have been outlawed. the only way to be able to feel is by attempting a dangerous escape, or by ending your own life. the entire city or country is known as 'The Collective'. all of the residents talk monotone and live the same lives. they wear neutral colored clothing and no one in particular stands out. the reason that no one is allowed to show emotions is unknown but it could be due to a nuclear war that has happened in the past. if someone dares to show emotion they will get reported immediately, and can be punished or executed for doing so; only the brave dare to show emotions. emotions are thought as a disease and can get you sent to the city's Defective Emotional Neuropathy unit; which they will give you a shot where you will feel no emotion at all. this is to ensure that you will be normal again, however they will monitor you. Emotions will not make you free as they say; it will make everything chaotic. some may kill for love, just so they do not forget the feeling. but remember, love is a crime and it will always be until you find your equal.
